Interested in how Honda says to do their airbag for the CR-Z versus the ones I do at Acura. I think our inflators only have one harness clip going into them, and all the ones I've seen here are two. Something to have, I guess.

Checking to see if the recall was in fact done, too. Since they said the car was kept up maintenance wise and it wasn't
The CR-Z inflator has one plug, bright yellow SRS connector. The other connector associated and requiring disconnect to replace the inflator is the horn disconnect. The exact process is roughly cliff notes version: disconnect battery, remove steering wheel harness disconnect cover under the steering wheel, disconnect the SRS connector and horn connector, undo the two Torx bolts on side of steering wheel, remove horn/airbag assembly, unbolt the inflator from the back of the horn/airbag/steering assembly (out of the car), bolt in new inflator, reinstall.

The horn assembly houses the airbag and separate removable inflator via a cage-like housing and sliding spring mounts. The spring mounts, cage and fitment of new inflator or improper hasty reassembly is the reason so many are having issues with proper horn function.

The images were posted here before like 50 pages ago along with the official Honda Service Manual instructions on how to replace the airbag assembly (they are down now as they're so far back and no one was really interested in how to attempt to fix their horn issues themselves without dealing with dealership damaging trim over and over again despite asking). It is not listed in the service manual as an inflator-only replacement because officially only the assembly as a whole (horn assembly, airbag and inflator all assembled together) can be purchased and replaced.

If you still require photos of our exact CR-Z inflator units and or the Helm diagrams then let me know. If you want the official Honda instructions for this recall repair you're going to have to ask a service technician, they probably won't give it out but if you do obtain one you should share it here even though the process is known.

Just talked to my case manager and was told that there was no way they could have damaged the trim during install. He referred me to the technical service bulletin instructions that the mechanics use for install to somehow convince me that the process wouldn't result in damage to my trim. They offered me $150 gift card for future service. What an insult. I just want my car returned in the same condition as I dropped it off.

Others here have had the damage and the dealership replaced the trim at no charge. You can print this forum topic out and show it to them

Update on my situation, honda usa told me that the district service manager has refused to repair the trim because "they could not have damaged it during install" and because of their refusal nothing can be done other than me accepting a $150 honda rewards card or not. That is it. They wouldn't look up any info (this forum), nothing.

Sorry they didn't fess up, but that $150 rewards card is a good trade off, like it or not.

Like it NOT! If you took pictures of the steering wheel BEFORE you let them touch it you have a case (even if you didn't don't tell them that anyway) The word LAWYER works in many cases if you get the drift. I would call them back and stress the importance of the situation and use this thread "like said" as a point of reference.

I thought I was being crazy covering all exposed parts of the steering wheel and trim with painters tape. We all said many times in this thread to do that , take before pictures and to test the horn before and after. But this information is provided to you after the fact. I feel your pain.

Here is where it sucks the most. I have been lurking this forum for a while and was well aware of the precautions I should take with the trim. I just moved to CT and was waiting for the parts and was called by my dealer in NY that they came in. Since I was 4 hours away in CT they told me to contact a local dealer to have them install it. Makes sense. So I called to the dealer in my new area (CT) and they said they would call me in 2 weeks when the parts came in. A couple weeks went by with no call, fine. I schedule a cvt fluid change in the meantime. Never mentioned the parts were in during my scheduling of service. Drop my car off and get a call 1.5 hours later informing me the fluid was changed and they installed the takata airbag as well. So, I didn't have a chance to prep.

Semi related question, do they do some kind of software update with this replacement? My car runs different after getting it back. Sluggish, less power. I loved this car before I dropped it off and now it is giving me a headache. I have put 40k miles on it I can tell something is not right. Now I feel screwed because no one at honda usa is listening to me. Ughh. Courtney honda in milford ct is the dealership btw.

If they did it correctly they disconnected the battery for part of it and the car may have to relearn a few things.

I am almost tempted to protect everything every time the dealer touches it but I never leave the car and always wait for it so they can find me if they want to do anything else to it. I also stand by the bay door and watch but this still did not prevent damage to my center console when they replaced the driver's side seat back covering.

As my Dad used to say it moves through the world and things will happen but due to this last damage car will never be back at that dealer ever again.

Did you have them do anything else, any other kind of maintenance, when you dropped it off for the airbag? I felt this exact same way after I took mine in a few weeks ago for B12 service. When I got it back it felt less powerful and seemed like it was getting less efficient fuel economy. I brought it back to them and the mechanic took me on a test drive and basically told me I was imagining things, but I'm sure the car performs differently than it used to. I've pretty much just gotten used to it by now.

I had it in for cvt fluid change (didn't replace inline filter as requested) and they changed the airbag without informing me ( i was waiting to hear back from them about takata parts being in stock). My engine is louder, have less low end power, horn does not operate as it did prior and my idle is funky (idle hang when revving in nuetral or park, and idle climbs when applying brakes coming to a stop. Idle takes a while to settle at 850 rpms) overall my car is running like @$$. Seriously, before bringing it in I loved the z and now I am worried about its future.

Forgot to add my mpg has definitely dropped off and it's harder to hold the "sweet spot" when cruising in any mode. Basically feels like you're either accelerating or decelerating. One last thing, when I coast it slows down much faster almost like there is slight brake being applied.

Well, whatever it is they did to cause this, it sounds like you're having pretty much the same issues as I am. Your second post about the "sweet spot" and the constant brake feeling rings especially true. If I let off the accelerator at say, 70 MPH, it'll drop to below 65 within a matter of seconds. I gave up after multiple times trying to address it with them and being shrugged off or ignored. Needless to say, I won't be bringing the Z to that dealership again in the future.

Maybe Spdbump was right in suggesting it has to do with the disconnection of the IMA battery? We may never know.

Yeah I am going to do the idle relearn, currently my car is in the shop trying to diagnose what is wrong with it. This new shop flushed my radiator and overfilled it which caused some issues so it's sitting there having there mess up fixed and trying to diagnose my cars condition (post dealer "service") I have had really bad luck with this car as far as work being done unfortunately. When I get it back I will do the relearn and post my results. For now I am using my ruckus to get to and from work.

How long was your car sitting before this work was done? It may improve over time as the car resets. While my car was laid up waiting for the inflator I took it it out every few weeks to exercise it and charge the batteries up. I think I was referring to the 12 volt as some mechanics or processes require it to be disconnected. I know when the Speed Bump was in the body shop and they had to replace an airbag sensor from the accident they had to disconnect the battery. The good news is this time I did not lose the trip odometers or radio stations. I did lose those when the battery failed.
