My turn, my turn!

I’ve been following so many great build threads on this site, watching stock CR-Z’s morph into incredible machines, and I have to admit to being inspired by a lot of what you have done. Although mine might not inspire others, it may give someone an idea or two. I also think it would be fun to document my own experience.

Albeit this will not be the kind of high-performance or show-quality build that a lot of you guys have, I’m still very proud of Amy. I’ve worked hard to make her my own, and a lot of the installs were done myself (as a non-mechanic, I’m also quite chuffed about that). So, here goes nothing. Without further ado….

LADIES, GENTLEMEN, CHILDREN OF ALL AGES, WELCOME TO MY BUILD THREAD!

First off, there’s going to be a bit of time travel, as I have two years to catch up on.

April 2011, after researching the car, and getting lots of support here, I took the plunge. Not knowing what colour to get, but thinking a CVT was more suited to my driving, a call to my dealership revealed that a Milano Red had just arrived as a dealer transfer. This color was extremely rare in Canada at the time, so I drove straight out there after work, saw it, and bought it. Played a trick on my wife, that Saturday. I said that I wanted to drive by the dealer and see what they had on the lot, asked her if she liked it, and when the answer was “yes”, I told her that was good, because it belonged to us! :D

Here she is the day she arrived (still un-named):
Image

That’s her big brother in the background.

Of course, I had no real plans to mod her (which would make this the shortest build thread in history), but sticking around you guys meant that was not going to last…

Not really understanding the disease, I posted this:
http://www.crzforum.com/forum/aftermarket-crowd/8161-modders-why-do-you-do.html
Yeah, not me. Well, truthfully, I did order my car with mud guards, but that was practical on a gravel driveway, right? Oh, and I got the CR-Z door sills. No real excuse for that one, I’m afraid. Flu-like symptoms? Perhaps.

Next up was tint – 25% ceramic black on everything behind the driver. Practical, I told myself.

Thought I might tour through the DIY section. DANGER, DANGER, DANGER!
I came across this one: http://www.crzforum.com/forum/do-yourself-articles/1037-diy-brighter-floor-lights-gt.html and thought “hey, I could DO that one”. Fifteen minutes later, I was starting to show early signs of modditis.

Then came this one: http://www.crzforum.com/forum/do-yourself-articles/6805-easy-tail-light-mod.html In my opinion, a must-do for any CR-Z (thank you to Talk2MeGoose for that one). So, a trip to Canadian Tire later, and we were on our way. Oh, and that is how “Amy” got her name. The eye-liner look, similar to Amy Winehouse. My wife christened the car “Amy”, and it stuck.

Then came a summer of driving her as-is, thinking I could keep the symptoms under control. BUT, as she slept though the winter, I think I was compensating for not driving her by buying things online instead!

First stop, Bulletproof Automotive, for a stainless Noblesse exhaust and diffuser. No point in getting that, without the reflectors (in for a penny, in for a pound). Couldn’t wait until spring to install them, so I kicked my father’s car out of the garage one night and did this:

Oh, and the K&N Typhoon SRI was a must-have, as well http://www.crzforum.com/forum/do-yourself-articles/7381-diy-k-n-typhoon-sri-install.html (thanks, RicoMagic):

Bought a Spoon rearview mirror from Artkozak1, in the classifieds. That thing is neat, although it makes the rear hatch look about 50 feet away from you, and very small. But, you do get used to it.

And when the snow finally melted in the spring of 2012, Amy was sporting a Rando rear wing as well. Took a while to decide what colour to paint it, but after a long deliberation, I went with gloss black. Seemed to stand out better, would be an easier match, and probably cheaper (actually, the body shop manager wound up doing that for free, and installing it at no charge as well – thank you Oxford Dodge! I’m a big customer there, for work, but I never expected that.).

The front calipers, I painted myself, with Goose’s help:
http://www.crzforum.com/forum/honda-cr-z-owners-forum/7482-painting-calipers-help.html and
http://www.crzforum.com/forum/exterior-modifications/8506-red-calipers.html

Then SOMEHOW, she came back from the dealership (oil change) with an OEM front lip spoiler on her:

I have NO IDEA how that happened. Trip to Margaritaville, one can only assume

I’ll keep updating this as I get a chance to back in the time machine again.

Meanwhile, thanks for looking! :)

Thanks Scotty. You have always been one of the most helpful and supportive members here - even before you got promoted to management! Oh, BTW, where's YOUR build thread???? :)

Iwannamoditis is not something you should allow to lay dormant. Better to get it out of your system with a good purge on the interwebs.
It's not helping - but I'll get to that. Eventually. :hi5:

^ lol.. Too much controversy on my USDM Remus experiment.. Know those guys (Australians) , the penal colony...

LOL.. :giggle:

All good though.. Teasing..
I have not really done nothing to create a build thread.. But, never say never..

Thanks, guys (and gal).
Oh, and Holly, you don't know the half of it...

Maybe time for one more post for tonight – while I try to remember all the mods.

Thanks to two other members here, wkqkqkfk (3DCarbonWorks vehicle wrap ), and portabuddy, a few quick interior and exterior touches were added.

Oh, and 20mm H&R rear spacers (thanks, Scotty, for posting the measurement instructions and the size recommendations). http://www.crzforum.com/forum/exterior-modifications/7221-spacers-how-measure-size.html

The black OEM fit lug nuts were from Saku at Kamispeed.
(also got some CF stripes to put on the roof channels, but no pix of that).

All those threads about Clazzio seat covers got me thinking that I could improve the interior a lot. Saulutations’ and RicoMagic’s threads were a great help. Black centre console http://www.crzforum.com/forum/honda...m/honda-cr-z-owners-forum/8245-oem-2012-black-interior-parts-now-available.html and http://www.crzforum.com/forum/do-yourself-articles/9179-diy-honda-fit-shifter-mod-cvt-models.html
And the results:

Also got the OEM cargo liner. BTW, the floor mats are just cheap Rubbermaid ones, which I cut to fit around the dead pedal. Probably invest in those Aries ones this year.

With the help of OneFitZ, I came up with a brake light strobe, which I like to consider a safety mod (but truthfully, I love the way it looks –gives it that “supercar” feel, LOL). http://www.crzforum.com/forum/do-yourself-articles/11142-diy-center-brake-light-flasher-install.html

Back with more when I get the chance. For now, I’m off to enjoy reading more about your builds!

CR-Z Canadian, your car has always been my favorite after mine, and a lot of my inspiration on my car come from your posts. I could always tell that you take your time to deciding what you are going to put on your car and admire that.

.

Thank you again, guys.
Coming from peeps with star cars like yours, makes it all the more special to me!
Saulutations, your ideas have long given me inspiration.

And yeah, I do take my time (understatement of the year!) deciding my next moves. The next instalment will show that. OR, you can just check out the JRSC thread, to see how I've been torturing myself on that idea. LOL. But it is a lot fun, trying to figure out what works and what doesn't. It really makes it more like "personalizing" the car, rather than just modifying it!

Really glad that I found the CR-Z, and this site.

Do I sense a centre arm rest in your future !?
LOL, maybe.
Actually, I thought about carbon fibre wrapping my old grey console, and putting it back in. Then, maybe I'll look at an armrest. But I'm trying to save for a few special projects right now ;)

And thank you, Romie. I figure what I can't do with "shock and awe" of the build itself, perhaps I can make up with a clever story! :hi5:

I'm having fun, at least, and that's really all that matters. :D

Reading both of your posts made me think you guys spell these words wrong, but both of you are from Canada, so they make sense.

Anyway, your car is definitely one of the cleanest modded car here.

My CBP is still stock and from time to time I think maybe I should start modding. But I still have not gotten the bug.

You sir, are also one of the most helpful member here. The forum is lucky to have your knowledge.

^ Aw shucks! :)
The bug? What bug? I haven't got the bug either. No, really. I'm not in denial, I'm fine!
Every day, in every way, I'm getting better and better..... :giggle:

And yes, Gord and I both reside in the Great White North - our spell-checkers are not set to "American English" (whatever that is - think about it!). :D
And you will notice that neither one of us ended a single sentence in "eh", eh?

Thanks, supercrz. I'll try to live up to all that praise. :hi5:

You have done some really wonderful things to your car. I am trying my best to resist the urge to "mod".... but the more I look around here, the harder it gets! I will be following your build!
You and me both! If I were to modify my car I'd just go for the JR Supercharger and keep the rest stock and make a sleeper out of it.

Excellent build Canadian! Love the look the spacers gave the car. That's the one thing that bothers me on my stock Z -- how deep the rear wheels sit. Yours looks awesome.
