Congratulations. Unlike a VW, you can hop in the Z and go anyplace you decide to without a second thought. I got mine after my Phaeton died, and driving the TT roadster around was too much psychic load to deal with as an only car. My first Z got totaled (it was a '13 nav), and I just got a brand-new '15 to take its place. It's one of the most pleasing vehicles I've ever been in, despite not being a road eater, despite not being a roadster. It's just thorough fun, and comfortable.

Welcome to the Forum.

Welcome to the forum, and don't worry about the CVT after having a manual transmission. I hated automatics, and wouldn't consider buying one (until I thought about driving with my foot/leg in a cast some time ago.) Sure am glad I got my 2013 CR-Z with navi and CVT--it's the best package deal, if you go to an automatic with its low-end torque from the IMA motor and an engine/trans that revs/runs up to the red line and happily stays there. I don't know if it spoiled me, but I recently added another CR-Z to my garage--a 6-Speed, and I don't know which one's the "best." Two distinct cars now, but exactly the same, save for the transmissions. Enjoy yours!

Thanks for the warm welcome.

Defiant: I know exactly what you mean. My GTI had so many weird problems that I did not want to deal with anymore, especially with the cost of parts and how hard it was to work on compared to Hondas I've had in the past. It was my only car too and at 125k miles I was always worried about it breaking down.

litz: Yeah, I thought I'd be buying manuals for life. But now that I have an automatic I realize how much more convenient it is for daily driving. It's not like I was racing around in all the manual cars I had all day. Of course I miss it sometimes though. I'm jelly you have a cvt and a manual!

A friend of mine had VW buy back his GTI because they couldn't find the electrical gremlins after replacing the harness. A Phaeton I'd been shopping had also had its electrical harness replaced, and I've heard of other VW harnesss replacements. Bizarre.

defiant, haha i understand. but for me it's def not a macho thing, distraction is my biggest downfall... as i tend to put my full attention to whatever it is i'm doing. which means if someone is trying to engage in conversation with me other than "small talk" i'll often miss an exit or a turn.. a manual box is kind of a way to keep my mind focused solely on driving (though an auto box that forces you to "shift" would work to a similar degree). i do enjoy driving an auto time to time, oddly not when i'm in traffic though!

anyways, to OP, enjoy the car. it's quirky in some ways, but a very rewarding little car nonetheless. but sometimes a little needy as you need to drive a good amount to keep the 12V battery happy. otherwise, very reliable.

the only thing i'd suggest is to get a battery tender if you have a short commute or don't plan to drive the car daily. without an alternator, the 12V system gets its charge from the traction battery at a very slow rate.
