Greetings to all. I recently picked up a 2011 CR-Z EX CVT... thanks to my ‘97 Camaro getting totaled while apparently “recklessly parked” (wasn’t even in the car at the time).

I have had a lot of fun jumping between Econ & Normal modes to see the MPG difference. I’ve seen just under 37mpg after a tank of “driving like a Econ putz”, and closer to 34mpg while keeping in Normal mode and driving “normally”.

I have three mods that I’d like to make, but I’m getting more confused by the various postings.

1st:
I have the subwoofer w/no Nav unit. Looking seriously at getting a 2-DIN kit to add a touch screen. I want it to work with the steering wheel controls, the sub, and do not want to lose the sound volume or quality I have now. I read tons of problems with trying to do this and don’t see many real solutions being offered.

2nd:
I’ve read several posts about the Japanese convex, blue side mirror replacements that have turn signal LEDs embedded. Are they even still available? I can’t get a reply from the seller.

3rd: I want to replace my shifter with a katana handle style where I push down to shift. Anyone else done this, and did it cause problems?

...and, since I know the question will come up - here are a couple pics:

Thank to all for the useful tips & ideas. I really do enjoy driving the car.

(...and, in case it’s not obvious from the rear shot, I’m a former Navy Nuke who was on missile subs... so, we’d be 2.5 months underwater, twice a year, without seeing the light of day...)

Welcome! Nice purchase. Try going from Econ to Sport mode, there is where the real difference comes in to play. ;-)
Not much to offer in the way of help regarding your questions other than to say that #1 has been covered in multiple threads, with various approaches(vaguely remembering something about a Metra kit), so just keep looking, you'll hopefully find your answer.
Not saying it will happen but If the new handle is too heavy you may have an issue with the interlock "button" not returning, causing a problem with key removal or accidental shifting out of whatever position you want your transmission lever to be in.
Thank you for your service!

Thanks for your response. I’ve looked through everything I can find in the forum, but most everything seems to be several years old. Many of the parts are no longer available or have different part #’s, or there’s just no response to questions from vendors.
I’ll keep looking... I just don’t want to buy anything that I can’t use. Thanks again

Someone had a CR-Z navigation radio for sale with code. Will probably need some repinning of the connectors and is probably not plug and play but no dash kit needed. He is including the dash piece and airbag light, Hazard switch pieces.

Ooo Raleigh, I know there's a few other forum members there, me personally I am in Winston Salem.

Appreciate all the feedback.

I’ll definitely be sticking with Metra parts - I’ve yet to hear anyone say anything bad about them. I use my phone for everything except the actual radio. No need for a CD/DVD player. Been using the center hatch cover to hold my phone, which I 1st read about in another posting here, which works quite well

Rear view camera display is what I want most... then, better side mirrors

I have seen at least four other Z’s driving in the Raleigh area so far - they really standout from the rest. I’ve always despised commuting, but my drive to & from work is just about my favorite part of the day... now.
