My EGR Delete experiment,Facts & Figures,384 Kms
Hi all.i am sharing my findings during attepmts to delete/block my EGR valve without any engine check lightsand without using any re-flash or piggyback.I have JDM Fit Hybrid RS 2012,it has same engine as CRZ,the LEA.i did this because i intend to install sprintex SC soon.so i dont want hot exhaust gases back into already hot boosted intake and neither i want a boost leak from a wrong flowing EGR.
1:First i removed the EGR valve and blocked the exhaust opening(rounded one) with a thin round metal plate.installed EGR valve.driven the car.i heard strange futtering sounds from engine bay at 1200-1600 RPM,because the ECU was trying to open EGR valve again and again but no gas flow.soon the check engine light came(CEL).
i removed the -ve terminal of battery to clear the code.
2:Next i unplugded the connector to the EGR valve.Upon driving there was no fluttering sounds from engine bay and no CEL.but as soon i tried changing the Modes(eco, normal, sport), the CEL came again.
3:.now i removed the exhasut side blocking plate and blocked the intake side opening(the square one).
Driven again.fluttering sounds still but no CEl came after driving so much.so the sensor was still sensing the exhasut gas but no cell came.that means it doest measure how much gas is flowing but just sense it presence.as long as its there no CEL.
So the CEL comes when total flow is blocked from exhaust side.
i was wondering if we make a small hole into the exhaust blocking plate so that there is some gas flow so that ECU dont has to struggle opening it again and again and making those fluttering sounds.
Right now my EGR is hot to touch.so when it cools down i will experiment again by opening a small hole into exhaust side and completely opeing the intake side.
i also want others to experiment this because the combinations can be very diverse.making one hole, how big, making two holes, or making one hole in intake side opeing and do nothing on exhaust side etc etc.
The final solution will be considered successful if no fluttering sound and no CEL comes and we have managed to find the minimum flow theshold on which no CEL comes.
look people the companeis must not have desineg EGRs such that ECU will throw CEL as soon as flow is decreased.but cars usually give CEL when total flow is blocked.
so lets find that minimum threshold.
i will be posting my progress here.My EGR is hot after driving so it will take some time that i post again with new experiment.
my next plan is to make one hole of near 1-2mm in exhaust side opeing plate and removing the intake side plate.
Ok i made a tiny hole
and after 1 minute of driving the CEL came.
next up will be 2 holes when the EGR get cold enough to allow touch
