Honda REMIX version of the CR-Z

Was surfing the web this morning and came across this:

Today, Honda took advantage of the Auto Show in Toronto to present the REMIX version of its Honda CR-Z Hybrid. Restyled with Performance Auto & Sound Magazine (PASMAG), the work aims to demonstrate the potential for customization of both vehicles.

An AEM cold air intake, a Magnaflow muffler, BC Racing ER-Series coil-over springs, ER-BC Racing Series Enkei Fujin 18" wheels wrapped in 18-inch Yokohama tires and a painting composed of black and white matte make up the exterior modifications and performance applied to the CR-Z.

PASMAG are also added an audio system so that it can literally décoiffer (not sure what that means) its occupants with its incredible power. The original radio was replaced by a JVC navigation system with touch screen 6.1 inches while complimented by a set of amplifiers, speakers and subwoofers brand Arsenal.

A coworker knew I got a CR-Z and brought in a couple issues of Grassroots Motorsports where they talk about the car.

November 2010 is a pretty standard "is the CR-Z the new CRX?!?!" article. Some fun quotes:
There's been a lot of online whining about the CR-Z. Most of this kvetching claims that the new hybrid will never be as cool as the CRX, or that it would be better if it had a VTEC (yo!), or that it's too heavy, or that it's stupid and terrible and every other thing that the Internet loves to get riled up about.
Of course, most of those opinions come from folks who haven't driven a CR-Z - many of whom have never seen one in person.
The went on to compare it to a stock 1988 CRX Si:
Now, despite our sarcastic bashing of the Internet bashers, we bring some apprehensions of our own to this comparison. We also share a deep and abiding love of all things CRX.
All in all, they found the comparison favorable:
Speaking of squirting around, we've come to the part where we compare lap times around our test track, Central Florida's Ocala Gran Prix circuit. We'll cut right ot the chase and say that the two Hondas were nearly identical.
February 2011 pits the CR-Z against the Mazda2 and MINI Cooper. They ran them around Tire Rack's test track with Hoosier A6 tires (at the stock size for each car), not so much as a head-to-head, but examining each in light of the others.

MINI had the fastest lap time (.4s over Mazda2, .7s over CR-Z). They chose the Mazda2 as the best commuter - it had the best performance cornering, but they found it didn't have the horsepower to really recover from those corners. For the CR-Z, they open with another fun quote:
The 2011 Honda CR-Z was clearly the muscle car of the group. We'll let that irony sink in for a moment. Please come back to us when you've stopped chuckling.
Their biggest concern with the CR-Z was that its stock suspension is too soft for performance once you throw some sticky tires on, leading it to perform better on the straights than corners: "Honda's overall goals for this machine clearly lean more toward appealing to the masses than to conehead autocrossers." Still, nothing they figure some aftermarket shocks wouldn't fix.

"To that end, the experts at Hagerty Insurance compiled a list of the 2011 model-year cars they think have the best bet of getting the biggest returns 30 years from now. They selected these cars for their singular designs, their track-tested performance and their potential staying power as icons for their brand. And of course for their old fashioned good looks."

The CR-Z made the list!

Road test: Honda CR-Z GT 1.5-litre petrol i-VTEC hybrid reviewed

Quotes:

"So, with much hard-earned Honda heritage and driver-engagement experience invested in the CR-Z, was it wise for Honda to make it a hybrid? Can we really have our frugal cake, topped off with exciting performance icing, and happily eat the whole lot? Well, you’ll be pleased to know that the answer is almost entirely, yes."

---

"Into the interior:
If you’re looking for this kind of car and see yourself as the kind of person who has a rosier outlook on life, then you just have to try out the CR-Z interior. Just a turn of the ignition key saw me grinning like a kiddie who’s just stumbled into Santa’s grotto. I’ve never seen a dashboard display like it."

---

"Driving the CR-Z is really the only way to understand fully this cunning combination of petrol and electric power - the instant electric push followed by the petrol growl and rush was a novelty that never dulled for me. If you’ve not tried a hybrid then look here."

---

"Ten second sum up:
The CR-Z is a keenly-priced, effective and captivating hybrid offering from Honda, with a fresh, modern and well-executed feel throughout. Work with the car to burn less fuel and you should see savings at the pumps, especially in light of recent radical price rises. And the fun factor is there too - but be aware; it’s an addictive little coupe with all that fun behind the Sport button."

Honda CR-Z Hybrid Coupe Defies Its Critics

Honda CR-Z Hybrid Coupe Defies Its Critics | NextCars.net | Future Cars, Fast Cars, New Cars, Cool Cars, Hot Cars

Quote:

"The most maligned hybrid on the market today is the Honda CR-Z. It comes down to false expectations. Take one look at the sporty design of the coupe, and you might expect it to be a rip-roaring fast automobile. The people who complain most about the CR-Z—as if it’s some kind of personal attack on their worldview—say the same old thing over and over again: “It’s nor fast enough, nor fuel efficient enough.”

But they’re looking at the wrong cues for an understanding of the car, and therefore miss the charms and benefits of the Honda CR-Z—which we rediscovered after another few days of driving the six-speed manual version last week. You need to look at the price tag, and at its three driving modes."

"Anyone that complains about the Honda CR-Z either has not driven it, or can’t see the big picture. After all, if you can’t afford the Tesla Roadster, I know that I can’t. Is there another sporty hybrid alternative? What, the Toyota Prius? Really, who would rather drive the Prius than the sleek, sporty, two-door Honda CR-Z? That’s what I thought. Nuff, said…"

Honda CR-Z | $19,345 - $23,355

The Honda CR-Z is admittedly an oddball choice, especially for a segment whose buyers who aren't necessarily looking for the sports-car experience. That's why we're listing it. A base model costs less than $20,000, and for that not only do you get the creature comforts — MP3 jack, Bluetooth, USB interface — you also get a car you can chuck around for giggles when you want, and when you don't, it'll return close to 40 mpg. This is a new type of sports car for a new world

"And this is precisely why the first five minutes behind the wheel of the Honda CR-Z can seem like a breath of fresh air and perhaps the Grand Compromise for which some of us have been searching: a front-wheel-drive, two-passenger, three-door hatchback hybrid boasting 31/37 city/highway miles per gallon, respectively, that is also a sporty little road-devil runabout unabashedly fun to drive."

Autozine - Road test: Honda CR-Z

"Did Honda succeed in making a hybrid car that isn't just kind to the environment but exciting at the same time? Certainly! This is thanks to the clever concept, which has been executed perfectly from start to finish.

The experience starts with the exciting design, the low seating position, the small steering wheel and the array of electronic gadgets. The high expectations are subsequently fulfilled by the direct steering and spritely handling. The hybrid-drive train delivers no more than fair performance, but that wasn't the main goal. Apart from that Honda found a unique balance between performance and fuel efficiency. Therefore the Honda CR-Z isn't particularly fast, but it certainly is electrifying."

My review after 20k miles.

The positive:
Great fuel economy.
Great looking.
Steering is spot on. Handles way better than car reviews reported (17" Honda wheels)
Seats are comfortable.
Ex Stereo is great for stock.
CVT Trans is very nice once you get use to it.
Cargo area holds a lot for such a small car.

Needs improvement:
Arm rest should be standard.
Rear wiper should be eliminated.
Rear seat area should have covers so when the seat back is up the stuff you have in the bins can be covered.
Adjustable rear camber.
More power in sport mode.

Things Honda needs to offer.
More aggressive wheel and tire packages along with suspension parts.
Leather Interior.
LED Lights.
Sun Roof.

When people start to "compare" the CR-Z to the Fit I just smile, because not alot of people would honestly take a fit over a CR-Z first thing because it's fugly and second thing it's fugly. Yes it may seat more people, adjustable seating, more "affordable" and nearly fuel effecient. At least for me all the reasons I chose the CR-Z was because of everything the fit did not have even though it was close. To see the beuty in the CR-Z is to see the whole package;)

just my two cents for what's it worth.
