Drivers door will not open!

So i have a problem with my drivers side door, it will not open from either inside or outside.

It started when the outside door handle intermitantly would not open the door, i saw a youtube video of adding a few washers to the rod would fix it. So i did this, and it fixed it or so i thought.

Opened and closed the door a few times and all seemed to be working 100%.

Que me putting the car door back together and then closing it one last time and locking the car.

After locking the door the door now will not open from inside or outside, pulling any handle i can hear it sounding like it is opening but the latch will not release.

So now i am stuck with the door not being able to open at all, i did some how manage to get the door card back off with the door still closed using a prizing bar, but still cannot get the lock to disengage.

Locking and unlocking all sounds normal etc but the lock will not disengage!!

Does anyone have any idea how to get the lock to disengage or how to get the door open apart from smashing off the mechanism from inside the door cavity

That could very well be the issue! since everything worked fine until i added the washer and locking the car!

Will give it a try this evening

also need a new handle now too since in frustration and trying the handle it snapped :< ordered one on ebay for just over ÂŁ40 chinese knock off so hopefully will be ok

Having the same problem buddy. I just made this error yesterday. Luckily its an open ended rubber washer I fitted so if I can get my hand in I can pull it off. But I am unsure how to gain access without destroying the door card. Did you have to permanently damage it to gain access. Many thanks for any help

I just got a crowbar type thing, and put some cloth on it. After removing all the screws that you normally take off including the two plastic trim panels above the door card left and right hand side. I then moved the seat as far back as possible and wedged the crowbar between the sill and bottom of the door card and prized it up as carefully as possible, i wouldnt say it was easy and it felt like there was a good chance the door card could be damaged, luckily it does not look like mine got damaged but i have yet to try and re-fit it. But will need a few more of the green clip things as they all got trashed.

not got the washers off yet as there is not enough room to get the linkage out the hole without the lock mechanism being off which i obviously cant do with the door still closed, so might have to try and cut them off this weekend.

Used your advice Brightside and managed to get it off without damaging it. Many many thanks for that advice buddy. I owe you a pint. Also I just got the washer off mine. Luckily I had used a rubber washer that I cut through on one side so I could slide it on and off. So I got my arm in felt around and removed it and the door would unlock straight away, so yes it's definitely the washer that causes it. I have to be honest to anyone out there and say DO NOT USE THE NUT OR WASHER HACK. It's simply not worth the hassle. I have sent for a cheapo door handle from China that will put me on until I can investigate and source a 3d printed metal replacement from a video I saw YouTube. The metal handle seems the best option at the mo. Good luck with getting the washers off buddy. If I could help you I would. Many thanks Brightside. I will keep that pint cold for you

Hope so, it is a bit annoying to have to swap it over :< although i will say that the genuine one feels A LOT smoother and sturdier than the chinese one did.

Also i tend to try the door after i lock the car since i am paranoid, so maybe the extra 2-3 pulls when the door is locked led to the early demise of the chinese copy.
