It will not damage the IMA. Why do you keep worrying so much about your car. Just drive it!!

If you want to turn auto-stop off, the only way to do so is to run your heater full blast, or AC. This causes the car to keep running (and use more gas). There are probably a couple other ways as well.. like the mentioned sport mode.

Auto-stop saves gas. Just use it as is. It was MADE to work that way. It won't break anything at all!

+1 on the defroster. That will also do the trick.

Here where I live, the auto-stop hardly ever turns off!! LOL.

But, thats because the weather is always either TOO HOT, or TOO COLD.

The fact that yours stops means you must have some good weather there?
