Knowing nothing about wheels other than the obvious, do the 17" wheels give more grip? Is there more tire in contact with the road? Do they fill up more of the wheel arch (or is the tyre thinner than the one used on the 16"?).

Or are the only three things you get from the 17" wheels: looks nice, less mpg, lighter wallet?

I would be careful about staggering the wheels, due to the difference in rolling resistance. From a braking perspective, the S2000 is engineered by Honda to have a staggered setup. I have considered the same thing, since my MR2 had staggered wheels on it that will fit the Z and hopefully sit flush too. But, I have to pick and chose my tires if I decide to do it, because of the difference between the F/R braking force.

Oh, and I don't think the Z will be able to get a 9" rear tire under it. On the MR2, a 255 would be a very tight squeeze, and it was coming from a 205/55-14.

Try the 1010tires.com sizing calculator. Very helpful

i was gonna say i think that a 9" wheel would be too large for the CR-Z... 8" is pushing it really...

i've seen Si's with 255's but that was REALLY pushing the limits...

if anything add spacers and stagger the tires :p get something like Front-205, Rear-235

personally i'm doing either 215 or 225 all around...

I'm running some 17x7 MB Weapons (re-badged ATECs) with 48 offset for a little wider stance. With 225/45ZR17 tires, it is sweet.

I thought about the 17x8 wheels, but was a little tighter than I liked.

Just throwing in that I do have running 18" 7.5 wide (45 offset) shrouded in 225/35 No rubbing, and I am with 1/4mph on the odo to the stock 16's I feel the car rides better with the heaver wheels, little less harsh on the road..

Just looking doing a little research on some wheels. They are available in 17" 7"width with 43 and 52 offset. Will 52 be too much for the Z? I'm a bit concerned that the 43 offset will pull the wheels even further in then stock.

I am running 17x7 with 48 offset... and it is fine.
