Should be getting the CRZ here in the next week or two. Curious what size sub is installed? 8"? I will most certainly be adding amps and a new sub, and speakers so I was curious what to look for size wise.

thanks

more than likely it's an 8" sub and 6" speakers...

i changed the sub out of my Si with the Pioneer 8" flat sub only 2" deep... had a lot of bass... in fact, it was too much for the stock location... my headliner and entire rear deck shook like crazy... and that's even after adding sound deadening :pat:

IMO, if you're gonna add more bass, just go with a whole box setup and don't try to utilize the OEM fitment b/c you probably won't get the results u desire...

I was impressed by the GT sound package actually. I was thinking about replacing stuff, but after getting the car and driving it for a few days I decided to wait and see how the stock speakers are when they are broken in. Is that the right term for speakers?

Yeah you can get a line out converter and splice into the speaker wires that go on to one of the rear speakers...your RCA cables that go to the amp will get connected to the line out converter....that is the set up that i did..i have a 1200w polk audio amp with a 2 farad capacitor....running 2 10" Pioneer Premier Subs, rated at 800W rms and 2500W peak.

Can someone clarify please? I have the base CRZ without a sub, and I would like to add a sub, but the folks at Crutchfield were unsure how to assist with a hybrid, afraid of over-stressing the battery. Can I and a sub by tying into a rear back speaker and running sub power from the battery with no negative effect?

If so, should it be a passive sub or a powered sub? Appreciate the assistance, I just want to be sure I'm not causing harm to the system.

I'm guessing you would need to buy the speaker enclosure.

The Side panel lining.

As I understand, the head unit is the same across the board (save those with Navi) and the wiring for the Sub is already in place. All you have to do is plug it in.

IMO, any additions to the audio system will have little or nothing to do with IMA battery (if this is what crutchfield was referring to). So other than the challenge presented by the ridiculously small 12V battery, you shouldn't worry about adding a powered sub within reason.

^^ There have been a lot of instances of people draining the 12v battery very quickly. By most accounts, when this happens, letting car sit for a while seems to shunt power from the IMA battery pack to recharge the 12V battery (about 15 minutes). Understanding this, if I was planning to put additional load on the 12v system, I might consider fitting a higher capacity battery - just see how large the battery tray is before you start shopping. I'd imagine that this 'need' would depend on how much power the new sub is drawing and whether you tend to play it while parked.
