Thanks for mentioning the 18 & 19 fuses :O
I used the 18 today for my interior LEDs and works out great :)
I don't have a fuse remover clip thing so ya had to end up using one of the open ones (which I would've not known without your test!).
Where can I get a fuse removing clip anyway? :O

wow, i didnt know that either. I just wigged some needle nose pliers in and pulled out a fuse to check it... Good info! Also, awesome info on the open spots. I bought a mini fuse tap and used 19 for my backup camera. Unfortunately, my old 7 inch touchscreen is busted, so I have to wait for the 4.3 inch screen I just ordered today to make sure all is working as it should. Also, since I had my panels apart, I used the opportunity to extend the wires for the kick panel led. Now, I'll have the same amount of light in the same spot as the passenger side, lol...

One thing to watch out for is most Fuse Taps are rated Max 10 Amps, so might be a good idea to use a relay so you dont burn down your car.

Where is a good location to fish the wire through the firewall into the battery/engine compartment?
There really is not one. Best thing I an say is if you have an Automatic look for where the clutch pedal would be, dill a hole, rubber grommet it. If it is a stick, same idea, you just need to find another spot.

I know I'm only about almost 4 months out of date on this thread...

in either case. thanks for the write up. It's some good info that I'm sure that I'll make use of down the road (gotta sneak in my electrical mods while wife isn't looking LOL)

wiring up some led's to one of these open fuse slots. i calculated that it will pull around 3 amps (23 milliamps per led bulb). every piece of literature i find says to use 16 gauge wire, but that seems a little thick for a few led strips... any1 know what size wire is appropriate?

I am no expert but when I ran LEDs before a 22g wire worked fine. no in line fuse. a direct connect to battery with switch. all neg ground to body.

3amps is a fair amount... I wouldn't use smaller than 18 guage, and always use a fuse :) you never know if that wire will get pinched and touch metal.

I didn't test the "Backup" one since I really don't understand why Honda's engineers uniquely labeled it with a special box around it. I just assume it'd be a bad idea to mess with it.
Yes, I accidentally discovered that fuse 1 (Back UP) not working is a bad thing. It blew when I plugged a GPS device I was testing into the OBD-II port (it was damaged and in essence shorted anything it plugged into- so I learned the hard way). Losing that fuse killed the IMA, traction control and emissions system, plus the entertainment system, remote locks and a handful of other things stopped working. Thankfully, replacing the fuse fixed the IMA right away and everything else after a few short trips.

I'm gonna finish up this mod this afternoon, weather permitting.

I'm adding a power outlet, so that if the need arises, I can charge my cell phone or what ever while the car is not on.

A special thanks goes out to holeydonut for the write up.

I'm gonna tap in to fuse position #46, using an add a fuse gizmo, and a 10A fuse.

Does anyone have a picture of their setup? For instance I am wanting to tap into an ACC/ON fuse, so I assume 18 or 19 for my radar detector hardwire kit. Can someone recommend what mini fuse addon kit to get and use for this setup? Also, would I need a 10 or 20 fuse for it? For your standard Escort 8500/9500 radar detector. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Well, I tried to use fuse #5 (BACK LIGHT) and found that it was on regardless of whether I was in reverse or not. :( It was on whenever the car was in ACC or ON, though it may be a timed circuit that controls the interior lights in the back.

just be careful of the wire guages in the rear... pulling 30 amps on a 22ga wire that goes quite a distance, could possible cause melting of wire...
carry a fire extinguisher....
