My buddy got done tearing down the long block this morning. He should be shipping the short block out today.

Once the rest of my valvetrain comes in he'll be taking the head to be assembled and resurfaced.

I also finalized everything with CatCams. Ended up buying from VAC Motorsports as they're the only US dealer for CatCams. They also include all the customs and shipping fees in the purchase, which CatCams does not if you order directly from them. ETA is 8 weeks, which should be right around the time I get my short block back from CNCWerx.

I've made a couple more purchases since my last post. BaysonR finally got the Mugen side skirts back in stock so I was able to order their full ZF1 Mugen lip kit. I placed my order at the perfect time, as the next day they sold out of the Mugen front lips.

Other than that, I picked up a couple parts from silent0ne714. He made me a killer deal for the Tein coilovers, the worse condition Mugen grill and a pair of side view mirrors described in THIS thread. My plan is to buy the matching Tein pillow ball mounts for the coilovers, as well as EDFC Active as long as it's compatible. Luckily one of my best friends little brothers lives in Dallas, so he was able to go pick up the parts locally. He's going to Austin next month so he'll be able to drop them off with my mechanic buddy. I'm gonna try and get them to ship me the grill, so I can have it repaired, painted and installed along with the BaysonR lip kit.

Other than that I have a lead on the OEM Mugen emblems I'm looking for, hopefully it works out.

Talked to the body shop again this past Friday about my carbon fiber hood. I was told that as of Friday, they've gotten about 98% of the cracks out of the clear coat, up to 8 or so sanding/re clearing sessions. The service writer said that I could actually come pick it up on the weekend if I was in a time crunch, but he really wanted to keep it another couple days because he says they'll definitely be able to get all the cracks out. He also told me that none of the carbon fiber was damaged at all, everything was just clear coat damage. So the hood should be done this week and I'm excited to see how it turns out. Service writer said he can't wait to see my face when I go pick it up.

My BaysonR Mugen rep lip kit should be showing up today. They're sold out of the rep Mugen wing and won't be getting any in stock for 2-3 months, so I ordered an IKON Motorsports one off of Amazon. I had been going back and forth on what I wanted to do with the exterior. I initially wanted to do as much carbon as possible, and probably put the carts together a dozen times. But, between having to buy the hatch brand new, REXXSTYLING wanting an arm and a leg for some of their carbon fiber parts, and me still waiting to get a quote for some carbon fiber fenders from Malaysia, I decided to just go the full Mugen route for right now. Only additional thing I ordered for the exterior was the REXXSTYLING stealth rear window covers. I think it'll look good with the Mugen kit and add a little more aggression to the exterior.

Since I'm going the Mugen route at the moment, I'm gonna try and make my car a clone as best I can.
Lip kit is BaysonR rep.
Wing is IKON motorsports rep.
Need to find an OEM or direct replica emblem for the wing.
Front grill is OEM Mugen with emblem.
I currently have one of the OEM Mugen emblems that goes below the rear quarter windows on ZF1's. Still looking for one more.
Need to find an OEM Mugen serial plate. If not, I have the measurements and will try to find someone to make a replica.
I've ordered a new set of Mugen floor mats that should be here by the end of the month.

I have an internal Honda contact that is currently searching the Honda network for any NOS Mugen emblems or serial plates that may be hiding somewhere. I plan to buy any and all of what he finds.

Only other thing I've ordered was another gauge pod from Ortiz Custom Pods. I'm having them make me a triple pod out of the top steering column cover so I can add in fuel pressure, oil temp and boost.

So, I picked up the hood today after work.

If you haven't already seen them, please look at the pics on the previous page so see the initial condition of the hood.

It's just.....I didn't expect anyone could do what they did.

I'm beyond satisfied with the work they did. I'm going back this weekend to get a quote for the full mugen kit painted and installed, along with painting the roof and front bumper.

I made it by the body shop yesterday to get a quick quote to repaint my roof. They didn't wanna quote me for anything else without actually seeing the parts they'd be painting and installing, which makes sense.

Lip kit came in earlier this week and the wing showed up today. My buddy in Dallas who picked up the parts from silent0ne714 shipped the grill out yesterday, it should be here by Sunday or Monday. Once everything is here I'll be taking everything to the body shop to start the whole process. I'm excited to finally get the exterior done.

Other thing that showed up today was the Mugen Sport mats I ordered.

I thought it was kind of funny when I ran across THIS THREAD in the interior section, stating he got the last set of these mats in the US. They can still be purchased new and seem readily available for $200. LINK

I only plan on using them for meets and shows, since I already have both the OEM cloth set, and the OEM all weather mats for my car.

My block was shipped off today, hopefully it comes back sooner than later. My head was also dropped off at the machine shop to get all the valvetrain installed and resurfaced. Haven't heard anything from InsaneShafts or CatCams recently, but both their lead times were 6 weeks+ so I'm probably just being impatient.

While I'm waiting on the block and head, I gotta start looking into refurbing parts of my turbo kit and getting it up to date to 2021 standards.

Nothing major, but I got a couple updates.

My InsaneShaft axles showed up at the shop in TX. Still waiting on my camshaft though. No word so far about ETA for the head or block.

OrtizCustomPods says they're almost done with my steering wheel cover pod, hopefully they'll send me pics of the finished product soon.

I've spent the last week or so tracking down all the parts I need for my Mugen clone. My internal Honda contact was able to track down the side emblems and the oil cap, but unfortunately there doesn't seem to be any more Mugen serial plates within the Honda network.

Was able to get two BNIB side emblems for the CRZ from a dealership in New Hampshire. AFAIK these were the last two NOS emblems in the US. I actually won't be using these on the car, I have used ones for that. I'm happy to have some backups though, in case one of mine gets damaged or stolen. I was playing around with the idea of mounting a decent powered magnet on the inside of quarter panel, then gluing washers to the back of the emblems. That way I could switch out my used ones, for the new ones during shows or meets.

Next was the oil cap, which was found at a dealership in California.

If anyone else is looking for a ZF1 Mugen oil cap, I believe this dealership in CA has the only remaining ones in the US. They're limiting purchase to 1 per customer, but I know of someone who purchased one from them today, so they still have some.

DCH Honda of Oxnard
1500 Ventura Blvd
Oxnard, CA 93036
805.983.0345
P/N: 15610-XMA-000
List Price: $154.50

Next I ordered what I thought was correct sized badge for the spoiler.

Turns out it's a couple mm's too small.

Luckily I was able to get the correct measurements from a gentleman on Facebook who has a legit Mugen ZF1. He even gave me the link to some replica ones that are the exact size and style needed for the Mugen rear wing on the CRZ. So I bought the 3 available.

At this point I'm only needing 2 more things(I think) to complete my clone. Some sort of serial plate, and the plinth(learned what this was the other day lol) that centers the spoiler emblem on the OEM spoilers.

I'm working with a local CAD modeler to create a replica serial plate. Initial render is looking promising!

I'll be using the same guy to make the plinth, after the plate is done. For those who may not know what I'm talking about:

It's the black area around/behind the emblem. I learned on the legit Mugen wings, it's built into the wing, but isn't present on any of the replicas.

Other than that, my Mugen grill showed up from my buddy in TX. Hoping to drop the car off at the body shop on Friday. Who knows how long it'll be there.

After the body work is done, I'll be tackling the ZF2 interior swap. Getting the full interior from a local friend who wrecked his, it's the black/maroon version. I'm also thinking about getting my wheels powder coated maroon to match the interior, but haven't fully committed yet.

That's all I got for now!

Finally dropped the CRZ off at the body shop yesterday evening, along with all the huge ass boxes of body parts. I should hear back with an estimate within the next 48 hours. I'm hoping it's not astronomical, as I'd really like to get everything installed in one go. If it turns out to be more than I wanna pay right now I'll only get some things done and save the rest for next month.

Also got the base plate finished for the replica serial plate I'm making myself. The CAD modeler I went with for the base plate wasn't comfortable adding in the Mugen and CRZ text, which I understand. So now It only needs a couple additions before it's ready for CNC.

The finished base plate in CAD.

A few 3D prints, all with minor differences, to compare with the real thing.

There probably won't be a ton of updates while the cars at the body shop, but I'll post anything that comes up.

Heard back from the body shop late last week. The estimate was about $400 over the upper limit I had in my mind, but I want everything done together. I don't want my lip kit and wing to look brand new while my roof, hatch and bumper still look like crap. No time frame on when it'll be finished, I told them to take as much time as they need(or can lol).

I did receive my steering column cover pod from Ortiz Custom Pods today. I like the way it came out, just wish I had my car with me to test cluster visibility when installed.

I'm still waiting on the Mugen emblem I ordered from Russia, should be in the states soon. No other updates besides the little stuff. I'll be putting time and money into my RL until the CRZ is done at the body shop. Feel free to check my RL out on AcuraZine HERE.

Got some decent updates!

My block is still at CNCWerx with no ETA yet.
My head is finally getting assembled at the machine shop. Should be done in a week or so.

I had my 3D prints I talked about above, compared with an authentic serial plate and was told they're almost identical in size and shape. After that I found a local CAD designer off Craigslist that was willing to put the remaining text into the base plate renders.

There's still some refining needed on the left most Mugen logo and the Mugen text, but it's very close to being finished.

Working with the same designer that did the base plate, I was able to get plinths made for the Mugen spoiler emblem. Also turns out the legit emblem I bought is actually the correct size, it just looked small mocked up on the wing. So 1 more tiny legit Mugen part, haha. Top one is the legit emblem, vs eBay knockoffs below it.

The authentic plinths are smoother around the edges, but you get what you get with 3D prints and artifacts. I'm going to try and sand one down a little to see if I can get that more rounded edge.

My last Mugen emblem is still in route from Russia. Tracking says it made it to the US last Thursday, but the tracking stopped there, no clue if it'll ever show up at this rate.

Still waiting on my rear window covers from REXXSTYLING as well. They provided me with a pretty janky tracking site and number. From what I can tell they arrived in Shenzhen China earlier today. I'm sure they'll be here by 2022 or never. 🤷‍♂️

I also decided to order a pair of bumper vents. I already have one on the drivers side, but I now want two, and want them to be from the same manufacturer and seller.

The biggest update though, is that I heard from the body shop earlier today, after 3 weeks of waiting! :D

I was told that everything has been painted and installed at this point. They are currently waiting on a replacement water nozzle for the hatch, as mine fell apart when they were prepping the hatch for paint. They're getting one directly from Honda, with an ETA of tomorrow, free of charge because it happened during work they were doing. They also painted my entire rear bumper free of charge, even though I didn't ask for it in my initial quote. When they removed the rear mud guards(that have been on the car since day1), the paint and mounting holes underneath were in bad shape. They painted it for me so it wouldn't detract from all the new body/paint work they did, which is something I brought up during the initial quote. Once again this body shop has gone above and beyond my expectations.

After the nozzle is replaced, the final preparations can be completed. The said the final workload is going over all panels they didn't paint, removing any scratches, touching up any paint chips and doing minor paint correction where necessary. After that the car gets a final buff/wax, which they said takes them 1/2 to 3/4 of a day to do up to their standards. So realistically, my car may be done by the end of the week! Can't wait to see the finished product!

The only downside to my car being done this early, is that I'll have to wait until a later date to paint/install the parts that are still in transit. I'll more than likely wait until I have everything and take the car back to them to paint/install the rear window covers and install the new bumper vents.

My next update will more than likely be pic heavy once I get my car back!

The side window covers and new bumper vents showed up today. Gonna take them to the body shop tomorrow so they can be painted and installed before the car is finished.

Still no update from the body shop. I plan on calling tomorrow as they've had the car for 2 weeks since I dropped off the 4 additional parts.

I'm still waiting for the Mugen emblem from Russia, the seller already offered a refund but I declined for now because I'm still holding out hope.

I did find a place that still had some OEM ZF1 Mugen shift knobs, so I ordered one.

At this point the only thing I'm needing is a replica serial plate. Which luckily I finally have finished CAD renders for only myself, and never anyone else, ever.

I've reached out to a local CNC business to make me some. They should come out nice for all the personal uses I have planned out for them, never anything else but personal use for myself though, ever.

USDM ZF1 Mugen - For my current ZF1 only, never anyone else, ever.

JDM/EDM ZF2 MugenRZ - For if I ever do the ZF2 face-lift and switch to the MugenRZ kit. For my car only, never anyone else, ever.

USDM ZF1 Mugen without 'CR-Z' - For when I finally get a Mugen kit on my RL. For my car only, never anyone else, ever.

Incase you may have missed it above, let me reiterate and clarify a couple things.

  • The serial plates that I am replicating are strictly for my personal use.
  • I will not be making any additional unless I personally need them.
  • Any plates I no longer have a use for will be destroyed.
  • No, I will not make one for you.
  • No, I will not share the CAD files with you.
  • No, I will not share the measurements with you.
  • If you PM me in regards to anything serial plate related I will block you.

Thanks for understanding :)

Called the body shop this afternoon to see about any ETA.

They said my car it technically done(again, lol), and they buffed the whole thing. After the whole car was buffed, the roof moldings looked like crap and were super faded. So they took them off and painted them today, they'll be reinstalled on Saturday and I can pick the car up on Monday!

Love the window covers and yellow fogs. Glad you got it back!
Thanks! I can't stop looking at it every chance I get, haha.

I even made sure I had a reserved spot for it at my apt complex before it was done.

Wanted to make sure it was:
  • Not bordering any other cars but my own
  • Not touching or near any sidewalks
  • Not under any trees or common bird spots
  • Under a street light
Bonus points because I can see them both from the master bedroom window and my patio lol

Also peep the new CTR wheels on the RL 👀

Fun night with the local crew. Did some maintenance on a buddies car, took a cruise and ended with some Egyptian food 👌🏻

If anyone else in the NOVA/DC/MD area wants to come hang with our little local crew let me know! We usually get together a couple times a month.

Just a few simple things:
-don't be a dick, or act in an assholish nature. We like giving each other shit but it's all in good fun.

-don't attempt to poison anyone's mind against anyone else. The small group we have has an understood dynamic, so we recognize negative change in our friends quickly.

-don't come hangout because you're only looking for free troubleshooting and maintenance. We all enjoy helping each other out, but if all your looking for is people to turn a wrench because you're too lazy or broke, go find another group. This is also something we will quickly catch on to.

The above things might seem a little weird, but you'd be surprised at the amount of untrustworthy, manipulating and simply shitty people that may live in the same little town as you. Those are the people we're definitely trying to avoid.
