Honda's Scirocco-chasing CR-Z looks mint
Check out Honda's horniest hybrid. The new Scirocco-chasing CR-Z looks mint and will cost just £18k when it comes here next summer.
A spiritual successor to the much loved CR-X of the 80s, its 135bhp 1.5i-VTEC engine should be good for sixty in 9 seconds, 120mph and 60mpg.
The petrol-electric IMA powertrain, consisting of underfloor nickel metal hydride batteries and an electric motor, is ultra-low CO2, but a six-speed manual box and grippy front-drive will also guarantee engaging progress.
The CR-Z is still officially a concept, but parts sharing from the Insight, Jazz and Civic means that 95% of what you see here will make it to the street. At just over four metres long, it's small enough to have a young/female demographic, with the same sort of allure as cute coupes like the Audi TT.
Swoopy, dramatic and desirable, this could be the car that changes Honda's reputation forever. The sort of motor that could even seduce the most neanderthal petrolhead.
With that sharp price, green credentials, emotional engagement and the promise of performance, it might just become the hybrid equivalent of the Ford Capri.
