Quick shifting problem

2736 Views 8 Replies 6 Participants Last post by  Zil
So i've got a 2011 6MT CRZ which is made in Italy and i've noticed that when i try to shift quick it does somethin like a hiccup when i release the clutch. It does it in all 3 driving modes. But if i shift slow or normal everything's ok. The clutch feels in good condition. Am i doing something wrong (i'm thinking that IMA does not know to apply the power so quick) or can it be a problem?

Others have mentioned this issue. There is a device installed called a Clutch Delay Valve that is part of the clutch mechanism. Some have removed that valve. Others have just learned how this particular car needs to be driven.

PS all CR-Zs were built in Japan and shipped I believe

I noticed the same thing shifting fast, high rpm, wot. Between the clutch delay valve and throttle-by-wire, you gotta learn to work around it. Try adjusting the timing of when you get back on the gas vs releasing the clutch. Your foot might be moving at the right time for a cable throttle body but an electronic one is slower (Between spinning the motor up, computational delay, and damping built into the algorithm) so you need to lead it a little.

I never knew about the clutch delay valve but the DBW throttle is definitely sh*tty lag. You'll always hit on the clutch real hard when doing heel-to-toe.

I've got something similar going one where when shifting the rpms dip way lower like if I'm in 3rd and I go to 5,000 rpm when I push in the clutch and go to change the rpm will dip sometimes all the way to 1,000 and the car kinda jerks, but if I'm going slow it doesn't really happen at all happens really any time I shift unless its super slow shifting it does this. Is this the same thing or different? I'm just wondering

As others have mentioned, the reason for this is likely a combination of the clutch delay valve and the drive by wire throttle closing speed.

I found that to shift quickly but smoothly from 2nd the 3rd for example, I have to get back on the throttle more gently then a split second later go foot down. If I just go straight from off throttle to flat down then I get a jolt.

You can't shift a quickly in the manual CR-Z as older cars but I can shift fast enough for me!
