September Almost Sure

American Honda has repeatedly said late summer. This narrows it down to August or September. The reason they have not nailed down a month is to give them a little "wiggle room" since world demand has not yet been determined. Japanese initial orders have been strong, but Europe, with its higher prices based on more deluxe content is the great unknown.

One of the reasons certain high-cost options like leather, sunroofs and LED lights will not be available in the U.S. is American Honda's concern about keeping the MSRP close to or below $20K.

And remember, there are no set-in-stone definitions of "launch", "release"
"introduce" or "goes on sale". Volume delivery could come as late as October.

I'm also pessimistic about seeing the CR-Z before the leaves start changing around here. The west coast may get the car by August/September, but I'm thinking October for car to show in the midwest. First cars not spoken for will be probably be loaded with all options.

why would the west get them first ?
i thought the dealers ordered the cars from the car manufactuer and the manufactuers don't hand select delears to send the new release cars to (unless its like the FCX which only california dealers can get)

and i don't care for luxury options anyways cause leather seats ? well they're gonna become racing seats anyway.

Statistically new car sales always are at there highest between July and August every year.. This trend may be closely attributed to cars being purchased for graduation gifts or starting college is my guess.. So August would be a very good time to release a new car if basing sales on statistical trend.

The September Song

Unless European orders are below forecast, the U.S. will probably not get CR-Z's before September. With Japanese sales beating forecast by 10 fold and many boat loads still to be dispatched to Europe, U.S. avalilability will certainly be later than originally anticipated.

i agree somewhat, oldchap, but i don't think "release date" will be delayed based on lack of availability... i think they will still release it on schedule (whatever that is), but it will be extremely limited causing dealers to mark them up like crazy and slow down the sales of it here in the US...

No Word Yet From Honda

Think about it this way: If CR-Z's were to be built in the U.S., American Honda would have announced a release date at the Detroit Auto Show in January. Here we are two days away from April and no word yet from AH other than "late summer". In other words, they still don't know when they will get enough cars to put at least put in every dealer's show room.

I'm pretty sure the CR-Z's will come from the same factory that built NSX's and S2000's. This is the highest quality factory in Honda's arsenal, but back in 2000 had a capacity of 25-30K units annually, if I recall correctly. Even with overtime it will be a strain to fill the world-wide pipeline so expect to see initial scarcity in the U.S. since we get it last.

Honda RARELY releases the "release date" of a vehicle until it's just around the corner... the closest thing they might release is the month it will come out... but knowing the way Honda operates, the actual date will be released much closer to that date...

this is just "my theory" based on Honda experience... and this has been CONFIRMED by multiple dealerships telling me that the "release date" and "price" is the last things they find out...

Hello from Prunedale, Ca. near Monterey Bay

I used to own a red 1991 CRX Si. Foolishly, I sold it as Illinois snow/road salt forced replacing the suspension seals. It was a total blast to drive besides giving good gas mileage. More fun than any other car I owned - so my interest in the new CRZ. The rear end is CRX & the front modern and future looking. I like it's looks. Can't afford one now, maybe as a used car. Oh, BTW a Gilroy, Ca. Honda rep.told me the car will be available for test driving in August, which I definitely will do.

That factory also made the mostly all aluminum Insight when it first came out. The little two seater. Of which, most are still on the road getting 60+ Hwy MPG :hump:
