Ive only had my white CR-Z for 5months and barely drove it in the winter here in Toronto. I just hand washed today and there are micro surface rust spots everywhere except the hood. I vinyled the roof and side mirrors so cant check there...

I phoned Honda and told me to show the maintenace manager on Monday so ill update as soon as I get an outcome.

Interesting that it was a white car. There was another thread on sealant failure here, also on a white car.

Might be break dust thats stuck on your paint. You cant notice it on any other colours but white. They are small orange (rust looking) dots mostly on the side panels. They are bitcx to take off too.

After birds in my neighborhood damaged the paint on my other car, I decided to buy the paint protection package offered by the Honda dealer when I bought the CR-Z. It was pricey at $400 IIRC, but it came with a paint replacement guarantee and included the renewal/cleaning products, along with wash, wax and vinyl/leather treatment.

I was highly skeptical, knowing that unless it was highly profitable the dealer wouldn't sell it. But after seeing how quickly a bird could damage paint and how difficult it was to do matching on a metallic color, the guarantee sold me.

The nice thing about this stuff is that bug guts and rocker panel road tar slide right off when I wash the car. In that regard it does much better than any wax I've used for the past 28 years. It doesn't bead water quite as well as a wax, but then I'm not seeing any water stains either.

I googled the company that makes the stuff. Apparently they don't sell direct, you have to go thru the dealer for the initial application and the renewal supplies (which are included in the set price).

I think you just need to clay-bar the surface, and seal it with some good wax. It's usually just some contaminant, brake dust, rail dust, small corrosive particles that are the result of vehicle and road wear.

Mine was the same but it was rail dust. Just get a good quality clay and free up a good amount of time because its stubborn. Before you clay it, give it a good hand wash, then run your hand accross the surface and again after you clay it. If done right, its like night and day. You can feel all the dirt and contaminents in your paint before you clay it and after, its like a baby's bottom :thumbsup:

I was sent to Hondas body shop manager and he tells me its not covered by warranty and that it came from my own brakes. Im gonna escalate the issue to Honda Canada, first im not going to accept this from a 4month old $30,000 vehicle which had less then 5,000k. 2nd ive got a Honda Element bought brand new from the same dealer, driven and beat up everyday and now has over 100,000kms and no sighn of this or any other issue. I know its just claying and waxing but thats their reponsibility for not having fixed an issue that is obviously still exist.

Sorry, how is claying and waxing a car 4 months after delivery their responsibility? Unless you're saying that it was there when you got the car you're not making sense. All cars will get industrial fallout either from brake dust or other contaminants. I don't see how it's anybodies 'fault'

I didn't mean to sound overly harsh, but realistically it's been 5 months since you took delivery. Granted it's been winter and you might not have noticed before this, but I think it's difficult to assign responsibility for this issue.

If you had made the case to the dealer that the contaminants were there when you took delivery, it's still your word against theirs but the length of time you've had the car isn't helpful. Honestly, every white car we've ever owned (2 Toyotas and 2 Acuras) have all shown this type of industrial fallout. I'm sure our dark colored cars had the same contamination, but it just didn't show.

One of my clients is a GM dealer and as part of their sales scheme to sell their paint protection plan, they point out all of the contaminants in the factory paint. Say, "feel all those bumps. See those orange spots. That's factory paint. Thats the way you get the car. Pay us $500.00 and we'll do this"... Then they proceed to have you feel and inspect the 'treated' side of the car, free from bumps and orange spots.

So, my point is dealers and everyone else know about these "flaws" and don't consider them such. They go so far as to use them as a sales tool to say look, you can pay us here at the dealer to make the factory finish better.

--and honestly 100% of their sales pitch is blaming GM for inferior paint. They don't bother trying to blame it on rail dust or industrial fallout. Simply, this is what you get from gm.. Or, you can pay us $500.00 for something better.

pretty sure its brake dust, all white cars with disk brakes have these . I have a white 08 civic with them and im expecting my cr-z to have some also, goto canadian tire and buy some stuff to clean it off..... i do it every spring and once or twice during summer.

Get yourself a Zaino starter kit. Follow the instructions. You'll be fine.

Or any of 100 other products that are all just as good. Any clay kit or paint cleaner product will have you set.

Sorry for the late responce, the dealer agreed to have the car detailed before i contacted honda canada. The sales manager was the helpful contact, i believe cause ived purchased 2 new vehicles from them and sent friends and family. I was to make an appointment next week and have to leave the crz for half the day. Id be asking too much if i ask for a rental..lol

^^ Glad to hear it worked out, IMO, it's probably what should have been offered as a goodwill gesture in the first place with the understanding that is would only be done once (in case they missed it when prepping the car)

The paint on the hood of my red CR-Z is bubbling off. Not sure if it's just the clear coat or all the paint, but it's becoming very noticeable. Will have my dealer take a look at it next week and see what the deal is.
