Howdy y'all,
I have a bit of a problem that's stumped me and my mechanic, and I wanted to get everyone else's advice on it. First off, I have a 2011 manual which I was driving (in sport mode) on the highway. I was "racing" a wrx, and now my rev limiter seems to have reset itself to ~5000 rpm. Every time it gets to this point, the rpms kick back to just under it, and refuse to go past. The car does not stall, and it does not feel like it's trying to shut down.
I didn't think I over revved, and no engine lights came up. The best me and my mechanic can come up with is maybe a floating valve or the ECU needs to be returned, but I would love to hear other opinions!

that's a new one for me. sounds almost like it's detecting knock and retarding your timing.

is the car generally sluggish otherwise, or is it running normally aside from not getting past 5K?

NOS. A double shot of NOS will fix it. That's also the only way you're going to show that WRX who's boss. And always get your tuna with no crust. Sorry, I couldn't help myself.;)
It almost sounds like it's in some sort of limp mode. You may need a true Honda mechanic for this one and their fancy scanner.

Ahaha, i may or may not have some mods in it that gave that WRX a good run for its money😅. To your point on the mechanic, he's a Honda specialist who specializes in Honda (and Subaru) drag racing cars, and he has absolutely no friggin clue what's going on. He seems convinced it's an ECU issue, but I'm not throwing any codes. Also i disassembled my air intake unit today and coolant system, thinking that i may have knocked something, but everything there seems honky dory. And, my next step is a nice lil installation of dry NOS😉

Do you think it has anything to do with the throttle body? The 5k limit with no dash errors is just weird, but it reminds me of the so called "limp mode" when you have an emissions error that would pop up on the dash like others have said.

HDS (Honda Diagnostic System) or equivalent will be needed. Hopefully the mechanic you are using has one. Not everything throws a check engine light, and the cheap ODB dongles do not read all the codes the car can produce. Hopefully you have not reset anything yet.
