Hi guys, I hope everyone is well

I'm new to the CR Z family and I don't use any social media, so this is the only way I can find out about the community

I'm UK based and have just purchased the Honda CR Z after months of looking for the right one - and I believe the previous owner was on this forum too (not sure what his username is or anything)

Anyway cutting to the chase, I love the car, but there is a few things I need help with (hence why I picked it up for a cheaper price than market value)

1. When the clutch is fully up, I hear a but of a metallic noise. I believe this has been covered a few times on this forum, but was wondering if anyone could help me? It might be the bearing from what I'm reading, but I wanted some guidance regardless

2. When in low gears, the car sometimes rumbles. I've taken it to a local garage and they've said that this is from general wear & tear of the gearbox. It might be something as simple as gearbox fluid needed, or a replacement gearbox at some stage

3. The engine management light has just come on, and again I took it to the same mechanic who told me that the code appearing is: P0171. He's saying that this is due an injector that needs cleaning

From the sounds of things, these 3 issues are somewhat related, but the mechanic said drivability isn't effected at all

I do have another appointment on Saturday with a gearbox and clutch specialist, so I'll see what he says. But I was just wondering if you guys have had any issues like this and if there is a path to fixing these

1- when the clutch is released the transmission input shaft is spinning. The shaft bearing could be worn, or the gearbox oil might be low or have lost its viscosity if it's old enough. So a trans service where the gear oil is drained and refilled with fresh fluid of the proper type is a good idea. Also a visual check for leaks especially if the fluid level is low.
2- this is kind of vague and hard to make any guesses about without actually driving the car and hearing it in person. Could be a lot of things.
3- P0171 is a code for a lean condition, again this has many possible causes. Injector maybe but also things like vacuum or intake leaks.

You need a competent and honest shop to evaluate the car and properly diagnose these issues. Unfortunately there's only so much help we can offer from behind our keyboards here on the internet, this is really a "hands-on" matter.

Find a better shop or a dealer after having the Transmission flushed and filled with the proper fluid. Your bargain may become very expensive if it needs a transmission, a clutch and other work.

Welcome to the forum, and @NY-Z took the words out of my mouth, lol. Also--it's a good idea to change ALL fluids after getting a car that has (or seems to have been) a little behind on maintenance. The issue with your p0171 code could be caused by anything from poor quality gas to vacuum leak or low fuel pressure, but I'm just typing and guessing from across the big pond, so hopefully, your local mechanic can trouble shoot it. It's not an issue I've had myself and/or it's not something common to the CR-Z, but just specific to your car, basically.

Hope you get it all sorted out, and let us know how/when you get it back from the garage.

Make sure you use honda mtf gearbox oil. Nothing off the shelf.

The engine code for lean running needs should be a priority imho. Lean running can cause a whole heap of issues for the cylinder in question . The ecu will try to compensate but as it is taking reading from the lambda(s) and not from each cylinder you will have 3 running slightly richer and one leaner.

Hi dude thanks for taking the time to message back and give your feedback

So yeah I've had the car mechanically checked again by a friend of mine who owns the garage, and he's said that the clutch will probably need replacing and the gearbox too potentially

Tomorrow I'm going to get the gearbox fluid drained and replaced with new fluid, I want to see if that helps the current gearbox

Overall the issues make sense as I picked the car up for cheap - so yeh it'll probably cost me another £1000 to get it all sorted but that's the motor life! I'll keep you updated

Hey litz thank you for getting back to me man. There's no visible leaks from when my garage friend put the car on the ramp, so I believe the code is injector related probably

My main concern is the clutch and gearbox which will now cost me a bit! Do you know if there is a place I can get good replacement gearboxes from? (UK or Europe based)

Hey Tank, yeah my friend said the same exact thing. My initial plan is to do the gearbox fluid change tomorrow and see if that helps somewhat for the time being - but in the long run I'll definitely need to do some of those repairs stated in the thread

I'll be going to another mechanic on Saturday just to get a 2nd opinion regardless. And thanks for letting me know about the particular fluid!

Too bad yours appears to have had a hard life but now that it's been "rescued" you can get it sorted, hopefully without breaking the bank.

Hey guys

So it looks like worst case scenario I might need a new gearbox and new clutch (might do them both in one go) just had a few questions:

1) does anybody have a link for a genuine Honda CRZ clutch kit? UK or Europe based

2) does the Honda CRZ require a flywheel too or does it come with a solid flywheel?

And 3) does anybody know where I can get good honda CRZ gearboxes from? At the moment I've just checked eBay - but maybe you guys know a better place

Welcome to the club! Mine is same colour as yours, but loving your lip and skirts. From the bits I'm picking up on the car it likes genuine parts where possible, so maybe see how much the clutch kit is from Honda and find a good independent to fit if they are cheaper labour than Honda. There are a few breakers on ebay which you could ask about the gearboxes/condition and mileage. If you get a warranty as well with them that could sort the issues if yours is terminal. Where in the UK are you?

Yeh I'm going to have a word with Honda and see what they say about the clutch kit. My friends gotta garage and he's quite good, so might get his team to do the fitting tbh. The gearbox I might have to import from Poland as they seem like they have the most gearboxes available. Lucky for me eBay has a 10 day policy, so I can get it fitted & checked, and if it drives bad, just get the gearbox sent back again
