I finished installing my own lit rails today. I have to say, this project was a lot harder than the video made it look! There were plenty of things that were difficult to discern from the instructions and/or video.

Casualties:

  • Broke a retaining tab on the gray plastic front piece (the piece around the fuse box panel.) No idea how this happened, but I ordered a new one for $53.
  • Hairline crack along the top of the right footwell plastic - it's high enough I probably won't fix it. (Removing these things was difficult)
  • On the first rail I somehow measured wrong and ended up having to pull around 8-9 metal tabs out instead of the suggested 3.

That said - it's done, and they do work. I really wish I'd let the dealer do this one.

I was going to do the same. I find I hit the sill every time I enter/exit. It's not like its an H1 or anything but it does seem like a far distance to the seat. Anyhow, I now see in your pics it won't cover up my scratch anyhow.

Thanks Northbridge - yeah I'm glad the part was cheap. Gets here Tuesday.

Sorry to hear you had issues with the install! I thought is was really easy or I wouldn't have recommended the self install.

Looks great, though.. that is what counts!

The things I found hard:

- Removing the black kickplate trim pieces
- Routing the wire harness on the driver's side (I finally "got" this but it wasn't obvious at first. For future readers it gets tied above the data port and routes over the heater duct and behind the vertical piece. Basically the largest "hole" between passenger and driver is the right spot.)
- Routing the wire harness around the heater (again the problem where was confusion around the pics, especially the taping part which I finally realized meant tape towards the back of the car)

Still not sure what mistake I made in measuring that caused me to over-modify the door seal.

As I am kind and generous here is the fitment guide for the Glow pack which consists of speaker rings, door pocket illumination and door sill garnishes:

They list 2 versions of the fitting instructions for the speaker rings, so here they are:
