Hello, guys

I am negotiating for a CR-Z 2010, and I asked the owner (it is in another country, here in Europe) to do a health test on the battery before I buy it. So he went to the dealer and sent me the result. It shows 75% usable capacity but it seems like they also reset the BCM. What is the relevance of this test? I attach it below, please someone with more experience in the technical details help me.

Does that indicate that the battery was only 75% charged or that it is only capable of being charged to 75% capacity?

It writes: usable capacity. The SoC (state of charge i think) indicates the current charging state and is at 65%, as you can see

Its 9 years old now right, and NiMh not Lithium ion/polymer like 2013+

So it has pros and cons related to the cell technology.
One pro is nickle metal hydride (or cadmium) batteries are far less explosive, but also less effective in terms of capacitence and output capabilities.

I wonder if it was well looked after and kept charged ( or duty cycled properly for nimh)

Another plus is you can get battery conditioners for the NiMh version.

And Li/Lipo if not cared for get crystalline cell wall degridation and when that happends they hemorrhage their charge voltage, which is not a (or as much of) a concern for the older battery tech.

so all the modules read 16v and you've got a good reading of 112V for the whole pack.

This looks like a healthy enough battery for 8 years old. you can replace it for about $3000+labor/shipping if you're really concerned about it

you can probably thank honda for that. good charge management and cell quality.

if i remember rightly the 75% usable capacity simply refers to the fact that the car will not allow the battery to be charged either completely full or drained completely empty (remember, even when showing 0 bars the ima will still start the car), so the "usable" capacity is 75%. its a standard thing on (almost?) all electric cars. i'm pretty sure the ampera i was thinking of buying next (rebranded chevy volt for the UK) wont charge higher that 80% or drain lower than 20%, and i think there's something similar in the owners manual for the the Z.

its also why your phone battery doesnt last that long, constant 100% to 0%

Yes, I think it's the maximum capacity that is allowed to be used. But also I found on some American forums a result that indicated 50% or even 30% of usable capacity. And then the battery is near death. They said also that this indicator can be reset with HDS and it takes some km to recalculate.
