Horse power gain out of new spark plugs?

I was recently lurking around the internet and researching performance parts and/or techniques on the Honda Fit platform which shares a similar gas engine to the CRZ. I came apon an article on a project car and was a little suprised on one of their methods to achieving a horsepower gain.

Article from honda tuning below

Project 2009 Honda Fit - Denso Iridium Spark Plugs - Honda Tuning Magazine

Kraftwerks dyno chart below

Kraftwerks USA Dyno Results

They bolted on the usual exhaust and intake mods to the car and each mod gained about the same horsepower throughout the dyno power curve. The last mod that they did was an upgrade to a Denso Iridium spark plug. After the dyno they realized that they had achieved even slightly more power increase than a cold air intake at some ponts throughout the power curve.

Reading this made me wonder if the same performance could be unlocked with this sort of mod on the engine in the CRZ. Im not sure exactly how much of the engine is identical to the Fit. Also I was wondering if anyone has swapped out there sparkplugs on a Fit/CRZ to know how difficult it is to replace them. Meaning the performance gain might not be worth the stress and time to change them out. With experience with other vehicles, even simply changing the spark plugs can be more difficult then it needs to be.

I thougth thta the article was at least interesting and worth others opinions and input.

I never doubted a Hp gain from spark plugs, now i want a Part Number so i can get them. along with a CAI. May just remove the resonator if it has one
BY judging the measurements of the plug, the Denso IK22 should work. I will take detail pics to compare it with the GE8 and Denso plugs shortly.

I too am waiting for a short ram or CAI to come out for the CRZ. I do understand that there are examples from Top Secret and Mugen but $1,000 for 5 fwd hp goes against my cost/benefit ratio. These plugs sound interesting as well with a little better cost/benefit ratio.

the difference in set ups is wierd to me, the stock plug sets the ignition further in the combustion chamber then the IK22 plug, to me the closer........... as i wrote this i imagined the combustion happen in the cycinder and a plug closer to the top of the chamber may in factbe better for power, instead of having the initcial explosion happen away from the top allowing for power to get lost by traveling up to the head. Reduce that travel up and more goes down making less wasted power to the cyl head and more to the piston which is what you want. So in fact the IK22 plug would be better then stock, but when is stock ever better then after market anyway.
That dyno chart assumed the same level of bolt on's for both with and w/o the new spark plugs?

That seems rather unbelievable. I've never seen spark plugs mentioned as a serious perfomance booster on other sites. Normally gets tossed out by the general consesus.
Prob the difference is the stock plugs had been used quite a bit. So most likely new spark plugs would gain power since u prob lost that power as the plugs got older. Lol

It's coming.
That's great, something to look forward to. Good find. :hi5:

$1000 dollars for 5 HP:eek2::bs::iough:?!?!?!? That is absurd, I don't care who or what makes it.
a set of densos was my friend's first mod on his ricer accord...

Well, if you buy a set of Denso Ik22 plugs for $50 and you get the same kind of 5hp on the dyno as you would for a $300 intake, or $600 exhaust then I could see why your friend jumped on the mod.

It's coming.
Oh Takeda made one of the better intakes for your dollar on the Honda Fit..... that is a tease.

Nice find Human668! I think you just found my next mod for the CRZ. Unless AEM makes something better/sooner.

:eek:hmy:
I don't think a set of plugs can give you 5hp unless you got a weak spark with your stock plugs. High performance plugs improves the igniting power so the engine will have better combustion and thats where the power coming from.

+1
+ 100000000000
I have seen tests on spark plugs in V8 engines that did increase HP, so I don't see why you couldn't get some from our car as well.
interesting find. when are we going to hear about a raceheader!!!?
vtec just kicked in, y0 !!

i'm not drunk...
