Honda CR-Z - 2010 Hybrid Demonstrates Unique Style
The Honda CR-Z Hybrid has finally debuted at the 41st Tokyo Motor Show on Tuesday. The CR-Z is a new sporty coupe that has 2 seats and stylish features.
When I first glanced at the new CR-Z, I just had to get this car. The Honda Hybrid resembles the Honda Fit and the 2010 Honda Insight. In fact, it looks like a mini-Insight because it features similar exterior characteristics. The car is designed for consumers who are interested in a small or hybird vehicle.
"Beyond great styling and features, CR-Z will bring new levels of engagement and fun to customers interested a small car or a hybrid vehicle." said Erik Berkman, vice president of Automobile Corporate Planning and Logistics for American Honda Motor Co., Inc.
The vehicle is equipped with a six-speed manual transmission and powered by a 1.5-liter i-VTEC. It also has the same IMA (Integrated Motor Assist) powertrain as the 2010 Insight. The overall horsepower specifics are not released yet.
The production model will make its world debut at the Detroit Auto Show in January 2010. The concept version that appeared at the Tokyo Motor Show included a backseat. However, the production model will be the 2-seat version. The car will first launch in Japan in February 2010.
The release date for North America is set for sometime in the summer of 2010. The price has not been announced, but experts think it will be somewhere between $15,000 to $17,000. The pricing is only a guess.
Under the rear floor is where the electric battery is stored. The battery is a rechargeable NiMH (nickel-metal hydride). It took Honda two years to build the concept version. For those that wanted a hybrid sportscar, this is one to keep an eye on.
