All the millions and millions of dollars Honda paid engineers and put into R&D and testing on the maintenance minder and oil change frequency according to drivinh habits and temps and oil viscosity and all the other variables, and my Honda dealer wants me to get my oil changed every 3000 miles.....

According my cars computer it wants me to change the oil every 8000-9000 miles.

I know the old school 3000 miles but come on, oil has come a long way since the 3000 mile oil change days.

Only reason I can think of them wanting me to change my oil every 3000 miles instead of 9000 miles like the cars computer recommends is because they want to make $100 every 9000 miles instead of just $35 every 9000 miles. $35 is the cost of an oil change for my car at my dealer. So I assume if you multiply that by the number of people who believe oil must be changed every 3000 miles or believe the dealer is always right because they are the experts, that is a LOT of money.

wow, first off, my dealer asked for $75 for an oil change since it requires 0W-20, however my friend at the shop hooked it up.

second, he recommended getting it done at 30% when i was showing 20% at 10,000, and i know he is being honest with me since it only cost me his cost ($16) and he made nothing on it. i'd say go with 30%. you can certainly push cars to 10,000, but i agreed with my friend when he said your better off around 7,000 to 8,000.

Well the cost break down for my first oil change was:

Lube oil and filter $11.95 -- I assume this is labor time
Filter $6.65
Drain plug washer $0.30
4qts 0W20 oil ($3.25 each) $13.00
TOTAL $31.90
