Coil Pack

So I am having a issue with my engine where there sounds like a exhaust leak when the engine warms up. The dealer feels its the plugs and or the valves out of adjustment. I did both at 110K miles in 2019. The car now has 140K. They also suggest I replace the coil packs at a price of $800. Does anyone have recommendation in getting coil packs at a more reasonable price?

Thanks
Joe

Check that the spark plugs are still all installed correctly. The CR-Z is kind of known for pushing spark plugs out.

Yea that's why they said they are replacing the plugs. You can actually feel the pulses of the noise on top of the coil packs. I am still under warranty till december so that why I am having them do it, if the plugs damaged the head then it would be covered since the did the 100K service as well.
Sounds like the plug(s) backed out. Likely the coil pack(s) also got torched as the hot combustion gasses escaped.
I am waiting for them to pull it apart to see what actually going on. yesterday they confirmed my observations and needed to wait for the engine to cool before going forward.

So what happens when these plugs back out, do they unscrew or do the threads pull out?
They usually just back out but that hot combustion gas can act like a plasma cutter and really make a mess of the spark plug holes and threads.
I have had mine back out too, like you said you can feel it if you touch the coilpack. Luckily I caught it kinda early on so my coilpack stayed in decent shape. Hope you can solve the issue without throwing out the $800

If you're still under warranty than you shouldn't have to pay $800 for coil packs...
So I gut the car back, per the tech the valves were out on those 2 cylinders messing up the plugs. They had to redo the valve adjustment and replace the plugs and the coil packs on those 2 cylinders. The boots on the packs are different colors so I let them replace those 2 and got them to give me the online price. Warranty would not cover them because the valve were out, even tho I had the dealer do the plugs and valve adjustment 30k miles earlier.
The valves were not adjusted at the 100k service?

Also it would be hard to connect valves being out of spec to spark plugs backing out. Those are not really related.

Feels like you got took.
The valves were done at 110K and again now at 140K
So they didn't adjust them correctly at 110k?
Not attacking you here.

The dealership has some explaining to do.

The dealership did a valve adjustment and spark plugs at 110k and then you have issues at 140k but they claim it's not a warranty issue because they didn't perform the previous work correctly?

Interval on valves and spark plugs is 100k. The valve clearance shouldn't have moved far enough to be outside of spec in 30k miles. Just seems like a poor excuse for the dealership to squeeze you for money.

Yea but I dont know what I can do about it. Of course they said it just happens. I guess I could report them Honda Corp but not sure I get anywhere with them. I did try to see if plug 2 was lose but the 5/8 spark plug socket I have would not go down enough on the plug to get a good fit on the nut part. Since I do know of the blow out issue I did not want to take my chance and I took it to the dealer.

If you do nothing than you are absolutely guaranteed to get nowhere.
