As far as I know, there is no such modification. I've seen pruises do that spurt and glide thing all the time... frankly it causes traffic problems, but I'm sure there are plenty of folks who don't do that with other cars around. Going 20 miles per hour too slow is just as unsafe as going 20 mph too fast, and driving unpredictably can cause problems, so try to avoid that technique around other drivers we share the roads with.

However, that technique will benefit mileage on cars without auto stop. Just not quite as much. The CR-Z is not going to get quite the mileage of a Pruis, but it gets great mileage and is a better car in other respects, so I feel the tradeoff works much better.

It would be cool if someone out there found a way to do this with a stickshift, perhaps with an S+ button that auto stopped when held and restarted when lifted. I just worry that most drivers won't handle the technique in a courteous way.
