The factory alarm has no adjustments, nor does anyone come running if it goes off.
First suspect is the switch in the hood latch. Unplug it, and if you really hate your neighbors that much, fix it later. If you're the kind of cranky, crusty, jaded, sour old dork who thinks car alarms are a bunch of bulk wrap, leave it.
Second suspect is the switch in the driver's door jamb. Corrosion is the usual cause of poor performance and false alarms in both cases.
If you want to make your car alarm effective, disconnect the outside horn and instead run the circuit through 140db piezo horns installed in the headrests and headliner.
There are one or two other threads about this, and if you're the sort who thinks he can win the Lotto, you can try using the search to find them. But your forty million will probably come in before you get a match.
