disclaimer:I did a forum search and didn't find anything.

So I recently test drove this car and immediately fell in love. I really want to get this car, but friends say as it's a hybrid upkeep will expensive especially when buying used.

Is there anything I should know about it long term?

What breaks?
Is it cheap to fix?
Any surprise services?
Have you had to replace the batteries yet?

Looking to but one with 60 000-80 000km(37 500-50 000 miles).

I did notice the 100 000 miles club thread but no one posted if they received any long term problems.

Here is a CRZ reliability chart:Honda crz reliability It's based on the 2011 model. Consumer reports also lists it as excellent for reliability.

The hybrid battery is under a government mandatory warranty of 8years/80k miles, or if you are in a CARB state, it's 10years/150k miles.(Edit: I just noticed you used km, so I'm guessing you aren't in the U.S. -Figure on the hybrid battery lasting 160k+ km. I believe the cost of a new IMA battery was around $2500.)

The government may mandate 80k miles, but Honda warranties the hybrid battery for 8 years/100k miles.

I don't think this car should have any long-term concerns, especially if you are looking at that mileage range. Hondas are generally rock-solid for the first 100,000 miles with scheduled oil changes and maintenance. I read that the CR-Z has Honda's 6th-Generation IMA system and that even the 1st generation Insight has incredible reliability.

The concerns most people have with the car are its size, blind spot, and seating/cargo capacity.

You're far more likely to wreck it or get bored of it before the IMA batteries (or anything else major, really) fail. The only battery you'll need to worry about if the car has been sitting in a lot or garage for a while is the 12V, which is cheap and easy to replace even out of warranty.

I've had my 2011 for 3 months now. My advice is:

1. Don't get the Nav model. I think EX is the best way and it saves you a bit of money. If you enjoy using your mobile app nav system better, it's better to just buy something to hold your phone. The interface of Honda's Nav is confusing and slow.
2. For 11-12 EX models, check the fog light lens to see if they're cracked before purchasing. If it's not, purchase something to cover it to help reduce chances of it cracking.
3. Ive put about 3000 miles since the purchase. The only error I've received was the "Tighten Fuel Cap"... It resolved on it's own but its distracting since I'm OCD about perfection.

Thinking about getting my first CR-Z EX W/CVT 2013 with 13,400 miles ! Any thoughts on this ? The dealer is asking 19K, but it's not a Honda CPO vehicle ! Seems like too much $ ! It does however have some dealer installed accessories such as splash guards, rear bumper applique, cargo mat, illuminated door sills and armrest ! Carfax one-owner in damn good condition, but not from a Honda dealer ! Help me through this mid-age crisis please ! Sleepless, not in Seattle !

I got that same model and year, brand new, for 19.7K last August. None of the extras on mine, but none of the miles either.

It's a tough call. I bought Trudy new for 18k, but we had to finance for 90 days to get the 2 grand off, so with the extras and EX, sounds good even with the mileage . :)

I personally would keep looking. I paid 17,900 for a 13 EX w/NAV with 7,200 miles. This was CPO, from a Honda dealership. Granted I had to drive 7 hours to get it, but it was a steal. My advice is expand your search area to 1000 miles out. I only offer this advice because you could basically get a brand new 2014 base model for the same price.
