All US models have cruise control. I would think if it does not have it then you have a different ECU etc. So not easy to add. Aftermarket cruise controls used to be available but most cars these days have it. With all cars being electronically controlled I do not think it is something you can add. Good luck. Usually the Japanese Domestic Market Cars have features the other Markets do not.

before you go looking for a standalone cruise control solution, try buying a steering wheel with cruise control switches and just installing it.

I know on some cars, the functionality is present on all cars, but the switches just aren't installed on some trim levels. Base model corolla can get Cruise added just by installing the switch.

Yes, it is possible. I did it today. So far, only temporarily, but the cruise control worked and responded. But everything has to be done. Buy a steering wheel with cruise control buttons, buy a cable reel, stretch wires. I did it provisionally today and it works.

Hi

I was trying to do the same on my crz when i fall on this post.

I put a steering with controls ( cruise and phone ) but nothing happen. I see on my android headunit that no signal come from the new buttons.

I think it s because i have to replace the cable reel, but i see that you say " stretch wires " could you please explain what i have to do with wyres ?

Thanks

I wish I could help you but all USDM CR-Zs have cruise control built in. If that option did not come on yours there is probably a lot missing from the ecu to support it. Have you obtained the factory service manual for your market and trim? I really thought all CR-Z had cruise and Phone control apparently I am wrong. Of course a lot of it will not work if you remove the original radio and do not have the correct wiring harness for the radio stuff. The cruise control has no reason to be connected to the radio and in CR-Z there is an interface module between the factory radio and the Bluetooth for the phone functions but most replacement radios replace that and become the controller for blue tooth themselves through the radio and there are after market interfaces that connect to the steering wheel buttons you are probably missing all of that. Again cruise control has nothing to do with any of that.

You need to do more research and need some more understanding of what connects to what and how to make the aftermarket stuff work with what was in the car if it is even possible.

Hi

Thank you for your fast answer.

It s a french CRZ and mine haven't that options.

I have on android head unit who can communicate on the CAN BUS ( in order to keep the steering wheel control for the radio ), of course cruise control do not communicate with steering, but phone have to and it doesn't work.

The light " cruise control " on dash wasn't illuminated too.

I think i will on a second time order a cable reel for full options cars, it may take about 2 weeks to come.

Thank you for trying to help me.

Sorry for my english i m French....

That wil not fix it. you are missing more than that there is no communication between the ecu and the cruise. It will never work from my understanding you need much more than just the harness to the steering wheel. You need the ECU ( Computer) that can talk to those systems. Does the Bluetooth work if not you need an aftermarket interface between the steering wheel controls and the android radio unless you can just use the controls on the radio itself.

It's possible to finish. I did it. I have the original CRZ without cruise control, but now I have a functional cruise control. It is necessary to buy steering wheel buttons, cabble reel (with 20 pin without cruise control have only 10pin) , clutch switchI (I´em used a brake switch from a VW Passat) . Then it is necessary to stretch the new 3 wires from the gauge control module to the cabble reel. And 2 cables from the ECU to the brake and clutch switch. Then everything works

But it is not easy. I had to get an old cable harness at a Honda service and use a small connector from it. I think it was a volume from CR-V 3rd generation. it is difficult to put new cables, and if you are not an electrician and you do not understand the diagram I put here, you will need help

I am glad you have experience with it but as i stated he needed more than the cable ( 20 pin versus 10) glad he did not need a different ECU and figured there had to be other parts ( clutch switch and maybe connection to brakes as you stated) None of these things are as easy people presume they are I am glad it is possible just needs a lot more than just a harness and will require skills in wiring.

Thanks a lot guys, it more clear now

In the past i have do it on BMW e46, we have to strecth some wires and at the end activate the cruise control in the ECU with the retrofiting option in the BMW software tool.

So it will take time for the crz, but i think i can do it

Ok, if i undertand:
  • One switch is missing on the clutch pedal
  • One switch is missing on the brake pedal

I think i can found them on another crz, the locations must be present at the pedal
