Hey guys so I might have did a dumb. My ac has always worked alright but it always cooled down eventually, but I got a new role as a collision tech at a dealership which means I had free access to the machine so I was like screw it I’ll give it a vacuum and charge after I did it the ac has stopped working, I vacuumed and charged the system again and still nothing, I’m going to diagnose further at lunch today, let me know if you guys have suggestions

Most frequent issue is the clutch for the AC gets weak and the common solution is to remove the shims for the AC clutch. Others recently have had pressure switch issues and others have replaced a relay. There are a number of threads on these issues already. In the future please do a search and try to add to an existing thread rather than making a new one.

I would bet that the amount of freon going into the system needs to be weighed in. Check the requirements and see how much it holds. Too much freon and it will not cool very well either.

Exact thing has just happened me! I took to an AC specialised who regassed for me. Afterwards I noticed AC wasn’t as cold as it had been and then it just stopped working! I did smell some sort of burning but that may have been something else outside of the car.

Anyway, the guy now has my car and will be looking at it this evening!

Edit: My compressor has gone. Need to order a new one.

Can you ask that person what exactly happen? It could only be, that the clutch is not engaging and this usually don't cost a penny to fix...

There are many that had a shop replace their compressor but the issue was their clutch. Removing a few shims has resolved many CR-Z owners AC issues. Many shops go for the most expensive solution first. The other common repair lately is the replacement of the low pressure switch and a few have replaced a fan relay.

Get a second opinion.

My AC went out a couple weeks ago so I've been doing my best to research the issue here. I have taken the condenser cap off to remove shims but when I didn't see any shims to remove? Maybe I overlooked it but I'll edit the post with a picture soon. I checked the fuses which were good. Wasn't sure how to test relays so I just moved some around to see if there were any changes which there wasn't. Adding freon is not an option because my gauge on the low side shoots to red. I've read about replacing the pressure switch just not sure where that is located or what the part number is so I can replace it.
