Whiney noise

Hi all, Very much enjoying the Z experience but have a question...
I have a 6MT. It makes a whine/whistle noise that increases in pitch in line with engine revs.
Only audible when stationery or travelling slowly as it is quite quiet. Sounds very similar to turbo whistle. It doesn't sound to me like a vacuum leak, more a whizzy something rubbing slightly on something noise. I have checked the belts etc. and all looks good.
Don't think it's the clutch or release bearing as there is no difference to the sound whilst operating it. I have done a search on the forum for this but found no results- I'm hoping they all do it and it is part of the character!

Thoughts?

Could possibly be the electric motor itself, hard to say for sure though.

Thanks Fediej, I had wondered that and was alluding to this when I asked if they all do it.
But if this is the case then it surprises me it hasn't been picked up in any of the numerous reviews and road tests, as although fairly quiet you can't miss it (on my car).

Maybe others can chime in as to what it could be, but without actually hearing it, and even with hearing it, it's a guessing game unless someone has that exact thing happening on their car.

How about recording it for us to hear? It can help out.

I'll try, but as I say it is quiet and fairly hard to distinguish from the engine noise.

I had this a few weeks ago (that noise)

Almost at the end of a long journey I heard the noise you describe coming from the engine direction almost through the dashboard. It was very very quiet but I could hear it.
I could only hear it when travelling at around 3000-4000rpm (on a long road at constant speed)

I haven't heard it since but I know that noise exactly.

Thanks Fluffsta. Interesting- I'm thinking it is the IMA motor and that it's probably something they all do, but perhaps sometimes it's more noticeable than others? I have to say I wasn't aware of it today but then again it was raining. I'll keep an ear out for it over the next few days to see. Perhaps it gets louder under certain conditions?

Check you pcv rubber hoses. I thought my ima motor was going out once too but it was actually the pcv rubber tube collapsing in between the air intake and exhaust manifold.
