P0420 code

Hi all,

I have a 2011 EX with 132K miles

the Systems Emission warning is on, throwing a P0420 code.

I'm not having any performance issues, misfires, or gas mileage issues....

so this means it's definitely time to replace the CAT?

If so will this work?

https://www.proimporttuners.com/part...converter.html

thanks,
Bob

It should work, but I don't know about that manufacturer.... I ordered a similar header, but it was a T1R, and I had to wait 3-4 months for it to arrive, check out to see if they have them in stock first. My T1R needed a few modifications to fit perfectly (had to bend EGR pipe to align with the connection, and the lower bracket that attaches to the down pipe had a third mounting/bolt hole that mounts to the engine block, and that had to be modified to fit too.) Let us know how it works out if you get it--the prices of the OEM replacement is scary!

I almost took a dirt nap when I saw what honda wanted for a CAT.... outrageous!

I didn't want to even spend $375, unless it would fix the code. the code seemed pretty specific, but didn't know if a bad sensor would cause the same code or not...

guess I'll bit the bullet and give the MagnaFlow Header a try

Thanks!

Yeah, I sold my T1R to another guy on the forum because he had to replace his cat too.... I will get another header if/when I need to replace mine in the future, but it won't sound like a Hybrid any more, LOL!

I'd say it definitely means it's time to pay a shop to give you a definite cause for that code before throwing money at it blindly.

I'm going to the Honda dealer today to program a key...

Do I ask Honda to check the O2 sensors?

No, you ask them to run the appropriate diagnostic process for that code/light

Well, tell them you got a P0420 DTC, but the troubleshooting starts with possibility of poor quality fuel, then ruling that out; next step to replace the cat to see if the that resolves the problem.... There are more steps to that, but basically sums it up; funny how they go quite quickly to replacing the most expensive part in troubleshooting.

Litz, you have the factory manual with the troubleshooting process. I do not. My point was the code does not universally refer to a bad part. It refers to a particular process. Many think there is a 1 to 1 relationship between the code and which part to replace. There isn’t.
