Default Wheel and Rim Mass

I bought a slightly used white CR-Z a few months back. The first owner had curbed 2 of the 4 rims. So I've been entertaining the idea of replacing the stock rims with something a bit more fetching and preferably lighter, much lighter. As a hypermiler weight and aero are huge considerations for me.

So, the question. Does anyone know the exact weight of the stock rims sans tires? And/or have some suggestions for replacement rims that weigh than the stock rims?

I realize Honda probably did their homework on this one. So I'm not likely to find a set that are significantly lighter. But still, every little bit....

Wheel with tire weighs 35 lbs inflated. The OEM tires apparently weigh 18 lbs. So I'd say the OEM rims are only about 15 lbs +- 3 lbs.

This is just guess work though.

I don't recall anyone weighing just the eom rims. As OneFitZ wrote, the wheels and tires combined run about 35-36 lbs. His numbers look good to me.

The Enkai Racing RPF1 is an inexpensive wheel that weighs relatively little.

If I remember correctly, the stock 16" wheels are 16.5 lbs; for an OEM non-forged wheel they're pretty light.

+1 to Varmint's recommendation; for the money, RPF1s are the go-to wheel. They're forged, they're relatively inexpensive and no one will ridicule you for having knock-offs.

Depending on your preferences and driving style, you might also want to consider 15" wheels. Wheels get stupid light below 16". I picked up a set of 15" Racing Hart CP-035 wheels on eBay, that I want use for rears and they weigh 8.6 lbs each! Smaller wheels are also less expensive and the tires are cheaper too. Most of the small hybrids come with them, so if you are after mpgs, they might be worth a look.

Please stop telling people to buy RPF1s... How about a nice set of OZ Superturismo instead?

These are what you want:

RAYS WHEELS

I'm almost ready to pull the trigger but the offset isn't great and since you would need to add spacers it would almost negate the weight savings over the RPF1.

But the Enkei RFP 16x7 40mm inset weight 14.3 lbs. The Rays are 5.5 kilos or roughly 11 pounds. Do spacers really weight that much? 3+ pounds?

At a 2-4 lb difference just isn't enough to justify the cost IMO. Now if you're going for a wider rim to run a more aggressive tire set up, that's a different story.

They appear to weigh more than the stock rims.

Thanks for the input, but it sounds like your goals and my goals are not the same.
Remember I'm a hypermiler. Wider rims+ wider tires would be totally counter productive to my driving goals. Significant weight reductions aren't won in one big lump. It's a little bit here, a little bit there. Buying new wheels just for the 16 pounds of weight reduction would be a bit extreme.
But if a person is already planning on replacing their wheels anyways. Then trying to find the lightest set possible becomes a completely reasonable pursuit IMHO.
