I've suspected it may be a limitation meant to protect the transmission from the surge of instant torque provided by the electric motor.

In 16000 miles I have not had this happen yet. I broke it in by driving like I stole it. I am just saying could be something to it.

I have a Nissan Altima with CVT besides the CR-Z and I must say that the Honda, even though it has a slight delay, is much faster in engaging the CVT.
In the Nissan you can put it in gear, get out of the car, go back inside, have a coffee, come back and maybe... maybe if you are lucky, the CVT engaged and you can drive away.
Three point turns in the Nissan take forever, you can grow old fast doing too many of those.

Wow, my wife's Cube has a CVT also, but it doesn't seem to have as much delay as my CRZ..not that there is much delay in either car. Guess I am used to the regular auto transmission, from the past. I am normally a MT guy, but I like the mileage and longer life of a CVT.

Have never noticed it in the year I've been driving it. As a matter of info, with the engine idling at about 700 RPM, I lift my foot off the brake and the car starts rolling instantly; same in reverse. Of course if you mash it in Auto-Stop, there will always be a slight delay. If this is your first hybrid w/Auto=Stop, it takes a bit of getting used to. After 10 years with the Insight, the CRZ's Auto-Stop was no surprise.

It's not an every single time thing, just when you've been at a complete stop for a hot minute on occasion.

I've never noticed it. This is my first cvt and in many ways I like it better than a normal auto tranny. My only dislike is the rubber band effect when trying to take off slowly or transitioning from decel to accel at low speed.
