Not really. The autostop turn the engine off. When you shift gears, the engine fires back up. It doesn't really hurt anything, but it seems a little odd If it bothers you as it does some others, you can train yourself to turn the key off before shifting to Park. You'll still need to turn the key to Lock after shifting to Park.

^ That's what I do, too, if I'm feeling particularly MPG-conscious or don't want to drain the battery more by having it re-start.
Auto-stop, key off, shift to park, key to "lock", pull key out. It's kind of retarded that Auto-stop would turn the car on again when you shift away from Drive, unless you hit reverse (in which case, your foot is still going to come off the brake, so it could wait for you to do that - not like you're going anywhere until then anyway). That's definitely a pet peeve of mine - I like Auto-stop, but does it have to run around like an excited terrier, trying to anticipate your next request? |

I could image this is a safety concern of Honda's somehow. Like when the Auto-stop engages, it also (normally) engages the brakes to reduce the chance that the car will lurch when the engine is restarted. Last edited by tryc; 09-09-2011 at 10:48 AM. Reason: corrected typo |

I do this also. I find myself doing it in other cars as well, which is odd, but, whatever.

I guess I am kind of used to it with my previous DD being a Civic Hybrid.. I don't even really notice it.. That is when I am in ECON - Wait - I am mostly in SPORT driving around town and to from my short commute to work and home with environmentals running making AutoStop/Start somewhat dysfunctional most the time...
![]() But seriously - I don't even notice it anymore. If it bothers too much - as others have stated, turning the engine off prior to putting it in park is the solution other than disabling it. Modification to autostop |
