Default have trouble putting in gear 6MT

Hey guys, ive noticed this problem recently on my CRZ EX. i dont know if its because i sorta tampered with my shifter while i was changing out the knob.

Sometimes while driving and i try to shift it into first gear, it doesnt fully go into gear all the way and it gets stuck. i would have to shift around in order to open it up so the gear goes in all the way. this sometimes causes me to take off on 2nd gear instead.

has anyone else experienced this problem as well? if anything ill take it to the dealership to get it checked out. if anyone can give me answers it would be greatly appreciated, this is kinda embarrassing on the road -_-

I have experienced it on occasion. Usually during auto-stop at a red light. I'm guessing it's because the engine is off and the transmission is no longer rotating inside, so the gears don't match up (and the synchros don't help as it's not rotating).

Usually I'll pump the clutch once and once the engine is on it'll go in on the second attempt. Also rolling forward or backwards slightly (letting off the brake before you go into gear) sometimes helps.

there is a lock-out on 1st gear if you're still rolling forward

There's no gear lockout on any forward gear for the manual transmission. First gear has synchros and can be shifted into from any gear, while rolling or stopped.

I just did it 4 separate times from neutral, 3 at 7mph indicated, and one at 11. I also did a downshift from 2nd to 1st at 19mph for good measure. You can also shift into first while rolling backwards.

i see

i just find it really hard to get into first when im going 10km/h+, and using 2nd gear seems like too much load on the engine

The synchos have their operating range limits. You can solve the problem by double-clutching or 'false double-clutching'. Double-clutching is where you're in a higher gear and you need to downshift inorder to save wear on the synchos, you'd shift into neutral and release the clutch momentarily and blip the thottle while in neutral, push the clutch out again, then blip the throttle to raise rpm's to match the approximate engine speed required for the lower gear downshift, if your throttle blip is in the ballpark the downshift will occur. False double-clutching is what I do, where to save wear on the synchros when I downshift, I'll push the clutch in, blip the engine rpm's upwards then downshift (I skip the shift into neutral step). This technique will extend the life of the synchros enormously. Simultaneous braking and double-declutching footwork is referred to as heel and toeing, which Honda pedals are optimally arranged for.

Thnx guys, however i have heard all this before and i dont think that is the problem of what im experiencing.. the thing is, even at a complete stop, rolling forward etc etc. the gear just gets stuck like its locked up. i would try double clutching, wiggling it in neutral, putting it to 2nd then 1st. and it would still be a trouble actually getting it into 1st. its as if its literally STUCK and not a sync problem.

sometimes while driving, it would sometimes get stuck going to 5th as well. but it only happened a couple of times. im seriously thinking its cuz i sorta tampered with it while changing out my knob

I'm pretty sure even the owner's manual says if this happens, shift to 2nd quickly and back to 1st. I've had it happen a couple times, but nothing regular.
