^^ Contact the guy at the top of the thread.
You can file this under dumb questions if you like, but I have to ask it. This unit is a tweaked version of the one built for the Fit. The Fit is a 5MT. How does that work with the CR-Z’s 6MT? I haven’t seen a top-down view of the unit. I’m guessing the plastic base has no gate, and the OEM shiftgate is placed over it. Or does this kit include only the replacement lever and the spacers to lift the stock assembly? |

Hey Varmint,
On the picture above, the only parts that are included in the kit are the cylindrical gold-colored piece that is mounted on the bottom of the OEM shofter "stick". It is mounted on there with 3 little allen-wrench type set screws. This gold piece has a little ball on the end that mimicks the original stick-end; only lower now (for longer throw underneath the stick's pivot point, with shorter throws above it). Since this part extends the factory "stick" down by 17mm (~3/4") they supply spacers (also colored gold) to raise the entire plastic shifter base mechanism up to compensate (otherwise, the longer end on the bottom of the shifter stick would hit something below). Does this make sense? Not sure if I'm rambling... Guys on the Fit Freak forum have installed this kit, but have omitted the "spacers" leaving the original shifter assembly at stock height (and not spaced 17mm upwards). To "clear" the metal car body underneath, I believe they employed gratuitous use of a ball peen hammer. ![]() On the H-Fit website, they are selling hard-mount aluminum bushings to replace the sloppy, vague rubber OEM ones... I wonder if they'd work on the CRZ? I'd imagine they would. They also have their own short shifter kit, which would also most likely need to be "bored-out" to fit over the fatter CR-Z shifter stick. They sell it all together (S/S kit and hard mount bushings) for like $70. H-Fit.com....Performance Products for your Honda FIT GD3 GE8

I understand that this shortens the throw but is the length of shifter shorter too? If so, do we need a smaller shift boot?
Another question that is somewhat related but independent of the s/s: are there alternatives to Skunk2 shift knob? I really like how the 440g shift knob feels but I also want to join in boycotting Skunk2. Others I've seen are all around 200g and dont have the Integra Type-R look. |

![]() To me it’s a matter of choice and I’m the ultimate consumer ! LOL I’m not going to let what spun#… oops skunk thinks about MY CR-Z keep me from my improved driving experience. And from what I can see nether is Basis Sport Tuning ! And thanks guys for making this mod possible !! I bet nothing is going to piss off the guys at Junk…oops skunk more then the geniuses at Basis making a little bit of extra coin converting one of their parts they hadn’t intended for us anyway so the lowly CR-Z owners can have a short throw shift. I look at that as a nice middle finger to the idiots at Punk….oops skunk ! Just another way of looking at it I supose. <----Skunk2But I support everyone’s decision to purchase or not purchase this item… according to what they ultimately feel comfortable doing ! ![]() Once again kudos to the boys at Basis for a job well done !! |
