I found this annoying. if I want to do any kind of quick forward and reverse (parking reverse, making a u turn) I keep grinding my gears because I have a habit of putting in reverse while the car is still rolling forward. is this same with any Honda 6MT cars? any solutions?

The reason it grinds it that the transmission is still rotating for a bit even after you have pushed in the clutch. Reverse gear does not syncro to help match the shaft speeds like all the forward gears do and if the trans is rotating and you try to put it into reverse it grinds.
If you don't want it to grind when going into reverse make sure you have stopped rolling before engaging the clutch. Or put the gear lever into another gear after you have stopped before putting into reverse. |

Same for any MT as far as I know, regardless of manufacturer, no synchro on reverse. You just need to break that habit! |

First noticed this in my '82 Chevette, continued grinding in the '91 S-10, '05 Kia Spectra5, and now in the '11 CR-Z...I found out in my Chevette that if you try to pull the E-brake to stop the car faster to slam the car into reverse, it will actually fall apart...don't try that at home!!

The easiest way to avoid is to take a the extra second and come to a complete stop and then put it in reverse. |
