COTM ideas? - Honda CRZ Forum: Honda CR-Z Hybrid Car Forums

The CR-Z Of The Month (COTM) is continually getting better and better every month. We have seen some impressive stock CR-Zs and some amazing modified CR-Zs and sometimes they aren't even the winners of COTM!

The Moderators and myself want to make this the best and biggest CR-Z Forum on the internet and want everyone to enjoy the site. We would like to know if you would like to see some changes to the COTM contest.

Here are some options we are considering:

1. Would you like to see two COTM contests per month: one with modded CR-Zs, one with stock CR-Zs.
2. Alternate between modified COTM and stock COTM every month.
3. Keep it how it is. Possibly allow for more contestants.
4. Other ideas, please post.

Interesting topic, I'm gonna have to hold my vote while I think for a while. It does seem that, sooner or later every possible angle of a stock CRZ in every color will have been photographed, in which case the only things to judge by are the cooleness of the background or the shiny mods we all wish we had...

If it's getting better and better each month, why change it up? People will constantly be changing and modifying their crz's so there will always be new additions to the mix.

I'm Kinda liking the alternate months.. A lot of members keep it stock and gives everyone a chance to submit. Gives the modders a little more time to mod a little more.

There was a time when this thing first started - stock was pretty much it. And yes - outstanding photography with scenery/backgrounds always play a part in the popularity of the pictures. In part - is what it is about - seeing the CR-Z in different settings - areas of the country/world etc.

I think that each month there should be a different "theme" to the contest. For example, you could have one month for a certain color like "Best CBP CRZ". You could do best oem CRZ, best UK crz, most heavily modified, best interior, audio, lighting, performance, exterior, best stance, the possibilities are endless!

Even getting specific like having the best photo in a certain type of setting could be neat.

This would give more people a chance to compete in a category that suits them, rather than just being "best overall CRZ" every month which can mean different things to everyone who votes that month, based on whats important to them.

It would also keep it more interesting where the same people aren't entering every month until they win, and gives us something more to think about when voting. I think it would be more exciting to win a specific category too, rather than just a specific month. It has a little more meaning to it that way.

Might have to limit to 5 or 6 entries a month though in order to have enough submissions.

Just a thought

Interesting topic - I have had trouble deciding who to vote for several times as there are some fantastic cars on this forum. But if we get themed or too specific, won't some of the fun go out of it as the entries will be more homogenous? I kinda like the idea of having a separate group for stock CR-Z's but two contests a month might be too much, so that leaves us with alternating months. But do those of us with stock DD's have the time and energy to photograph and enter them in the numbers those who have the time to mod them do?

I think there are definitely two defining groups, stock vs. modified. But, having an all stock contest basically becomes a photography contest, does it not?

I cannot see having enough contestants who want to put up pics of their stock ride every other month, either.

Categories can be as specific or as vague as youd like, but I still think there would be plenty of variety regardless.

I's really hard to see a stock, or even slightly modified CR-Z going toe-to-toe against some of the mods, and many of the modified cars have professional photos done. Not that there's anything wrong with that - I personally think its great to see these amazing efforts shown at their absolute best. But you cannot expect someone's i-phone shots of their stock ride, no matter how loved, generating the same level of excitement. And that will eventually keep stock or near-stock rides from even entering, which will eventually kill the contest.

OTOH, those who put that much time, money, and love into upgrading their rides deserve the chance to showcase them. They give us all ideas and things to fantasize about. I''d hate to lose that, just so those like me with an un-modded car can have a chance.

One poll a month is probably lots for the moderators, and it keeps the interest focused. Alternating it between stock and mod cars might be one idea, but what if you bought the OEM exterior package, or only the front lip or custom wheels or tint - who do you compete against? It kind of discourages minor upgrades.

I'd say keep it close to the way it is, but perhaps have a few themed contests (maybe one every three months, with lots of advance notice on the theme) to see if they catch on.

Say "water" for a theme one month - could have photo's near the water, being washed, in the rain, against a fountain or water feature, whatever. Mabe "green" another month (as the car is supposed to be "green"), but contestants could have fun with that (from a green background, to someone who has custom painted his ride green (yuk, BTW), to some eco-ideas like a photo in front of a wind or solar farm or driving past a gas station. Perhaps "comedy", "competition" (ideal for those who have a stock appearance but lots of performance upgrades), or even "urban" or "rural" could be other themes that would rely as much on creativity behind the camera as on the body shop. Anything to get the creative juices flowing, and allow the stock rides to compete on a more equal footing every now and then.

Another thought would be to allow only ONE photo per month SOME months - then everyone has to put their best foot forward, and even the most heavily modded car will have to rely on photography as much as what they've done to the car. And a great shot of a stock car could concievably win. The winner that month can have a lot more shots posted in the victory thread.

Just my $0.02 worth (and Canadian cents, at that).
