What's with the excessive moderation?

Why do posts need to be "approved by the moderator" before they are posted? Why not just allow them to be posted like 99.9% of forums, giving the moderator(s) the option of deleting it later?

Does this only apply to new members or does it apply to every post made on this board?

This will only happen with your first post or two, and in many cases not at all. It is dependent on post format. EX: If a link is just posted in a thread, it will need to be moderated.

Since you are now at 4 posts you should no longer have to worry. As well, I have approved any of your posts that were still waiting.

The whole point of it is to combate the high amount of spam on the board. There can be anywhere from 15-20 posts per day that are from PostBots that are getting stopped before they hit the forum. Many people would rather wait a little while for their first posts on the board to be added than having hundreds of spam threads always appearing and ruining the look and feel of the forum

You think this is excessive? One of the forums I am on requires a introductory paragraph sent to the list mod, before you can join... and then at least ten posts before you can post photos or links... all because of friggin spammers...

We ban IP ranges from known spamming territories on another forum I moderate.

Judicious use of Whois and IP tracking does wonders cutting that crap out.

My first post was moderated as well. Figured I can't just walk into someone else's house and start spouting nonsense without the thumbs up. I'd rather have that than spam anyday.
