"The CR-Z operates its 16 valves via one overhead camshaft, employing rocker arms for each exhaust and intake valve. In addition to providing variable intake-valve duration and lift profiles across the rpm range, the CR-Z's engine closes one intake valve at low rpm, running with three valves per cylinder until the engine crosses the 2300 rpm threshold, " Anyway vid is here: http://webgerbil.com/blog/wp-content...22-55-52-1.mp4 |

I hear nothing. Do you even know what Vtec is supposed to sound like? And you know its REALLY hard to hear it on a sohc, plus i-vtec doesnt make it easier to hear. Vtec engages, but you bearly hear it in our cars.
Your video just sounds like WOT, but i hear no vtec crossover. Here are some vtec videos that are ACTUAL vtec crossovers. SOHC Vtec DOHC Vtec notice how this vtec crossover is sort of hard to tell... and thats with ITB's i doubt a K&N intake is going to make ours much more noticable if its even there to begin with.

You clearly can feel some sort of powerhouse in this car kick in around 3.5-4k RPM when at WOT. I like how you've posted a bunch of videos, have you actually sat in an aggressive VTEC car? My dad owned a 1997 Integra Type-R (first year made in America) #195 - very aggressive VTEC, especially after adding all of the typical bolt-on mods (even replaced the header). Video 2 that you posted does justice to this, but the rest not so much. I can say with confidence that the CR-Z has similar functionality under WOT - it can haul ass if you shift the correct way. EDIT: I agree though, that you really can't hear **** in this video - usually there is a point where the motor will clearly become louder. (maybe my car is somehow special???) |

widget,
Im not sure what you are disagreeing with? my quoted copy says you disagree with me saying its hard to hear vtec in our cars. Yet at the end of your response you say you cant hear anything? Also you have to realize that all of those videos arent just ITR's. The first is a D16 common in civics from back in the day. Its SOHC, thats why i posted it. Its possible to hear sohc vtec crossovers, but again its rare and usually hard to hear if the engine isnt upgraded.

I can agree with you though, that the crossover is difficult to hear - it may be simply easier to notice when you're actually driving the car because you get the small jerk feeling of the crossover kicking in. All-in-all, I feel that my point is pretty straightforward - there is a noticeable VTEC crossover under WOT, it really depends on how you shift. |

@tin I'm not sure why you are expecting to hear something loud as a full bolt on twin cam DC2 I'm not expecting that but I would be curious what the noise is since AFAIK there's nothing else in our car that should be making that noise. Even if you look up info on Bisi's car they have the 12-16 cross over tuned and that's it. |
