Channel 4 Action News has received numerous calls to its newsroom from drivers saying their tires have been covered in tar on the Pennsylvania Turnpike. Some of the motorists said the tar is eating through their tires. Pennsylvania Turnpike spokesman Bill Capone said a tanker carrying tar had a leak while traveling on the turnpike on Tuesday evening. Traffic has been obstructed between the New Castle and Allegheny Valley exits (mileposts 10.7-47.7), according to an alert on the Pennsylvania Turnpike's website . All eastbound lanes of the turnpike in that area are affected. Several cars have pulled off to the side of the road and traffic is restricted in the area.

Huh, I don't know. Maybe it stuck to the tires and thickened up?

Actually, a thin layer of tar on the bottom of your car would prevent rust and salt damage. I see a East Coast dealer add-on opportunity!
Here in LA they have been leveling freeway high spots. I drove through a slurry of cement dust (after they shaved it off) and ended up with a white coating under the car where the wheels splash. That was a mess to clean. |
