Default Lest We Forget

With Friday being Remembrance Day in most of the Commonwealth (and Veterans Day in the US), I thought I would post, by way of thanks to those who serve or have served:

IN FLANDERS FIELDS
In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie,
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

Lt. Col. John McRae
1872-1918

WE SHALL KEEP THE FAITH
(written in response to Flanders Fields)
Oh! you who sleep in Flanders Fields,
Sleep sweet - to rise anew!
We caught the torch you threw
And holding high, we keep the Faith
With All who died.
We cherish, too, the poppy red
That grows on fields where valor led;
It seems to signal to the skies
That blood of heroes never dies,
But lends a lustre to the red
Of the flower that blooms above the dead
In Flanders Fields.
And now the Torch and Poppy Red
We wear in honor of our dead.
Fear not that ye have died for naught;
We'll teach the lesson that ye wrought
In Flanders Fields.
In Flanders Fields we fought.

Prof. Moina Michael
1869-1944

I’m wearing my poppy – are you?

Cool thread. Shows that we in the US and our Canadian Friends share a lot of history.

I as retired military, am lucky and have a good career path.. There are plenty of vets coming home who do not for many reasons..

One reason

Home - Wounded Warrior Project

There is also the Warrior's in Transition Projects.

Warrior Transition Command | Warrior Transition Units

Thanks CR-Z Canadian..

I just want to say happy veterans day to all my fellow veterans. I love you all so much and thank you for your service. You have an honor that few of us share and that is much greater than even than the presidentual office. You are my brothers and sisters and I salute you on this day with great love and respect.

Wonderful thread. In Flanders Field bring tears to my eyes.

My husband walked into work yesterday and his coworker met him at the door to shake his hand and thank him for his service. It made his day.

A thank you means so much.

Thank you.
