Default Days to a Mile!

i was listening to the audiobook for Darren Hardy's The Compound Effect and while Darren ALWAYS inspires me to challenge myself to get to another level, he said a lot of things in there for me to make some adjustments on... one of those things i felt i could immediately change with relative ease was my health... one way is by jogging/running/walking to where eventually i will run an entire marathon!

so i decided to start a thread tracking my progress on my way to jogging a mile straight... and also for accountability... if you're like me and haven't worked out in longer than you can remember you might have similar results or perhaps worse... the point isn't where you start, the only thing that matters is finishing what you start...

with that said, everyone is welcome to join in on this if you're up for the challenge... my ONLY request is that you take EVERY SINGLE EXCUSE and toss it out... if you're reading this and it inspires you to want to join in on, ask yourself when would be the best time to start? on the weekend? in a few days? after you fully psyched yourself into doing it? NO, the answer is RIGHT NOW... that's right finish up on the computer and get out there and start your journey TODAY!

Darren suggests you create a "WHY" when deciding to go after anything... that WHY has to be reason enough to keep you focus and/or on track... so before you start write down your WHY for wanting to run this mile...

you can do whatever you want... i'm starting very simple... and modifying the suggestions i heard in that audio... so to begin, get in your CR-Z (or car) and map out a 1 mile lap around your house, then walk that mile only 3 times/week... after 2 weeks, start jogging as much of that mile as you can, then just walk the rest... do your best to increase this distance each day but if you can't, that's ok... soon you'll discover you can go further and further until you're running/jogging that entire mile in one shot... this may take several weeks or even a couple of months, the thing to remember is to keep on going... once you get to that point, focus on increasing your mile by an extra 1/8th of a mile... for better perspective, that's an 300 steps...
gradually increase each week (or as you feel fit) by at least 1/8th of a mile... it's that simple and just an example of "The Compound Effect."

If you want, you can also use this thread to track your results and if we get a few ppl in on this, i'll update the first post with everyone's results! i'm keeping an excel spreadsheet to document this aside from the forum... If i can inspire ONE person that reads this to gather the courage to fight for their life and join me, then this thread will have true meaning... Otherwise it's just a good place for me to track my results for you all to see...

If you're going to post/join just format it like my first comment below this post...

Good Luck everyone!!

it should be noted that you MUST work at your OWN PACE!! never compare yourself to someone else and/or try to beat them at the expense of your own health... as Tony Horton of P90X says, "Do your best and forget the rest." those are great words to focus on while working towards your goal...

Did you mean 1.5 miles? A regular walking pace is about 3 mph, so you should have traveled over one mile in 21 minutes. Throw away the crutches and get moving! :-)

lol... 3mph / 1 mile = 20mins

it took me 21mins b/c my dog got loose and chased me down about 0.10 miles into my run... i had to stop, turn around and walk her back home and start over... i did not start the time over... oh, and i stretched in that same 21mins too which i should've done before starting my time

thanks for the motivation

i was thinking of pushing for two run/walks, one in the morning and one in the evening... maybe after the first week i'll do that... but so far i've noticed i can go a bit further each time... can't wait to be running a mile again... then tackle a marathon 26.2miles

Good luck, Bizzy. You can do it. It's mostly a mind trick when you feel you're about to wear out. Keep going and you'll get a second wind. If you push hard enough you'll get euphoric and feel like you can run forever. That's the 'runner's high' that everyone speaks about.

You can do it, bro!

thanks for the support Shat!!! oh wait, i just realized ur name should not be shortened but yeah, i know what you mean by going that extra step... i push myself as much as i can w/o passing out lol... some silly doctor told me some years ago that i had "exercised induced asthma" whatever that means haha...

it's funny how b4 i was walking/jogging daily and i sorta stopped b/c i was working towards losing weight and when the weight didn't fly off daily, then i sorta stopped... now that i have focused on running a mile, working my way to running a marathon, i don't wanna stop!!
