Edit: The link works now. The article states that it's an ecu problem that can be fixed with a reflash and, in extreme cases it seems, a replacement ECU. It's not like the motors are blowing up or the transmissions are falling out. ECU bugs aren't an uncommon occurrence, especially in todays cars. |

It is kind of strange that their ECU only learns in the first 100 miles, then locks the settings. The first 100 miles you should be driving to break in the engine, and no WOT.

I have a feeling that the lock in is incorrect. Or at least I haven't heard of an ECU that does that. Usually you can reset with a special combination of holding the throttle with turning the key to the on or acc. positions in a certian order or disconnecting the battery for 15 minutes.

They are junk just look at the type of motor utilized. No one except Porche uses Boxer engines and they're not reliable cars either. Mine started leaking oil at 40k miles that inexcusable. That's why I went back to Honda and will remain with Honda or for some reason go with Toyota but a real Toyota not the BRZ nonsense

Engine problems for Toyota 86 and Subaru BRZ
If you also Google 2011 Forester you'll see that these new engines are nothing but junk the Forester has all kinds of mechanical issues stemming from the FA25 motor |
