Default New CRZ owner from PA

Greetings,

Just purchased my PWP EX w. navi last week. It's been pretty decent so far. I'm still having a hard time getting used to it. My previous daily driver was a 2010 WRX that was modded and put down almost 300whp and 350ft/lbs of torque. So coming from that to this car is a bit of a change. The gas mileage and price point of the car plus the 6spd were key points for my decision. I've been driving further for work and paying over $250 a month for gas was beginning to annoy me.

Anyway, the interior of this is above and beyond my wrx. Plus the technology options are great. Been reading the site and hoping to learn more. I'm averaging about 38mpg overall on the first tank. Thats a mix of city and highway of roughly 50/50. Not too bad imo.

My main question is, I keep the car in sport mode all the time, otherwise it doesn't really move from a stop. The battery seems to be depleted to 3 bars very easily. Is this common? It charges back up to all but the top bar on the highway, but it just seems like the battery drains pretty quick.

Thanks guys.

Hello and welcome.

It is easy to deplete the battery to 3 bars if you use the throttle heavily. Braking at the threshold of electrical and mechanical will give the system alot more charge than braking heavy and late. Just barely touch the brake pedal until all regen bars are lit, and you are there, any more pedal movement and you will feel the resistance of the mechanical brake system. I think Sport mode has a slightly different charging scheme than normal or econ, you may not see as much of an issue in normal.

I use normal rather than sport as I feel sport is jerky on throttle uptake, even on the race track.

Welcome! And congrats on your car.

You'll just have to play with the system and see how best to regenerate those bars for the IMA assist. Mine doens't seem to drop too quickly, but then I generally stay in Normal in traffic situations. In 4+ months of driving it, I've only depleted it to 3 bars once. The change was pretty dramatic without the IMA assist and I've probably kept a closer eye on when I was getting close to that ever since.
