I tend to keep my cars a long time. I have been totally Toyota until now, but Toyota gave up on other than SUV's and family cars. I didn't want a Prius. I bought my CR-Z in February and it currently has about 7300 miles. I have done the 1st oil change. I changed to Mobile TriSyn, 0W20 and put in the K&N filter. I do think this moderate change reduced the lag on the auto start. It was getting better, but now, no jolt (which was going away). Maybe it is just the car is broken in now. Car the CR-Z is replacing is my 1990 Celica All trac. I sold it privately to a guy in Canada. Sold for fair money, but it was getting too needy. This car, I think, is as quick as the old all trac in sport mode. I don't agree that the mode, sport, normal, econ, makes no difference. Sport mode with the auto cvt and the panel shifters, it is very much like the all trac other than getting used to the torque sway. All wheel drive on the all trac took care of that. Originally my gas mileage was over the EPA listing. But I was getting used to the car and driving it very conservatively on break in. Now I am getting 35-37. That is okay. It drives on 87 gas, and the all trac required premium and on a good day, I got no more than 19 mpg. I do have another car, 2000 mr2 spyder with mid 16K miles. It is rated at 30 mpg, and I haven't ever gotten more than 26 on it. My screen name is my license plate. This car is crazy fun. I have the ex with no nav (didn't want the nav though I know it is popular to have nav). I did have custom heated leather seats added. I am going to change the air filter to K&N. I won't modify the car. I like it the way it came out of the box. The USB for the IPOD is easy and sweet. I think Honda used the hybrid technology well. Even my Toyota dealer likes this car. Honda/Toyota, big competitors or reliability and return customers. I don't know if I would buy one of the other main stream Toyota or Honda cars, but since Toyota stopped making celica or mr2 for the US market, the CR-Z is the only car I could see myself in. Doesn't get the stares of the mr2 spyder, but it is classy looking, drives well and for a sporty coupe, very practical for every day driving. |

Welcome to the forum!
I have the EX, no nav. I use my phone in the cup holder; it get's the job done, and I'm really glad I did not spend the money on the NAV. I LOVE the bluetooth though! Definitely interested to see photos of your seats!

Welcome! I'm a long time Toyota driver myself (still have 3 although just a 4Runner and two family cars incl. my '88 Corolla which is still a great DD).
My mpgs in my 6mt CR-Z have dropped off a bit as well. Was getting around 42 overall but now it's dropped to just below 40 on the same commute, so guess I'm driving it less conservatively too. But compared to everything else I own, the mpgs are great, although the '88 Corolla does still pull 33/34 mpg on regular gas. |

I was driving the car very conservatively at first. So I was getting Prius like gas mileage. I got as high as 44 mpg. That is all over with now. I am not a lead foot but it is pretty quick off the line. Unlike conventional turbo, no lag.
It is pretty hot here right now, and even with a/c set at 69, not a slug. I used to just turn the a/c off at a stop on the all trac to not lose acceleration. I know the CR-Z does that for you on econ mode, but as hot as it is right not, I don't want the a/c turned off. I am getting 35 mpg with 90+ heat. Today the car told me it was 100. It stayed pleasantly cool on auto. I don't use the recirculated air option because I just think that makes the cabin air filter dirty sooner. Also windows tend to fog up with recirculated air with high humidity, which is what we have here in IL right now. It was like losing a child letting the all trac go, but I really love this car and am happy I bought it. Not as zippy on cornering as the mr2 but mr2 can't be driven in poor weather. I bought this car in the winter and new, not broken in, it was okay and not scarey. I drove the car on sloppy weather in econ mod to tame the torque. But given no bad weather norm or sport only. I have seen a couple of CR-Z's locally. 1 silver, 2 black. Mine is silver. I hope the car sells well enough that Honda doesn't stop selling it in the US. |

You're not far away at all. I think the majority of us all try for the best mileage the moment we made the purchase and then slowly decide to have fun driving the crz. The heat has been tough on the ac system. I've noticed it hasn't been fully effective during this heat wave. Are you noticing this as well?
