I am military also, no credit score AT ALL!!!!! and I put 4 down and it was sufficient for me to get a loan for the car, so with the 10, I am sure you wont have any issues with financing =P

First car, get the EX with NAV.
Yes you can get an aftermarket nav, and probably a better one. You may even get a better stereo. As a tech guy, you will probably appreciate the seemless steering wheel controls. If you get an aftermarket, some controls will work, some will not, some might work different. As a first car, get it right. Sometime down the road, you might be hurting for money and go a cheaper route, experience the pros and cons of aftermarket, and decide what you like best. |

We're going to be really biased here, so of course we'll say go with the CR-Z. I'll tell you this much, do NOT get a MINI. They're nothing but maintenance nightmares. In my personal opinion, they're lemons. Everyone on the forums are always complaining about all the problems, and even my freinds with new ones have issues. When you start having to pay 1200 for a water pump (and that's without installation costs, because you can't get in there yourself without a lift), your paint is fading and chipping after no time flat because BMW uses cheap, single layer paint, and your car (like everyone else) constantly has a CEL on the dash because sensors constantly fail on the car to the point you don't even notice the light anymore, it's just enough.
And I agree. I'd pass on the navi. At least I did. My Acer Iconia Tab with the auxiliary jack is the same thing for much cheaper. |

It's your car so try the various models, don't let anyone rush you, and try out the nav and other features. I got a base model and haven't regretted it. In my case, I wanted a light color because I live in the country where dark cars are a real chore to keep clean, so that also influenced my choice. Good luck with your decision.
