Default Backseat

Any thoughts on the possibility of obtaining the Japan/Euro backseat components and installing them in a US-spec. CR-Z? I know the backseat is small but there are occasions that I have passengers willing to put up with it

I imagine it wouldn't be cheap, but would any major modifications, fabrication, etc. be involved or would it be more a matter of disassembling what's there and replacing the parts?

Thanks!

Jason

just installing the arm rest is a pain in the ass so im sure the rear seat wouldnt be any easier. Have you seen the space for their feet? not much if any, they would probably have to put their feet on the seat. Lets not forget about the seat belts to be mounted.

Not sure if it helps but I've noticed the US version of the car has interior lights on the ceiling at the edges just where the seat belts go in the European version, so the whole seat belt assembly would also need to be shoe-horned in, so sounds like something very complicated.

Going by how much work it is just to fit the arm rest in the car, I can't see you'd ever be able to get it to the same as in EU. Also you would have to see the legroom before you even thought about this as it really is unbelievably non-existant unless the front seats are moved forward quite a bit.

I'm going to document the testing of my new stage 2 (3-11yr olds) child seat on Friday in the back, using the ISOfix mounts. I'll take lots of pics.

Yes I imagine it to be a bit of a job, maybe even requiring removeal of the front seats, etc., maybe a weekend or two of work, but what I'm most interested in figuring out are these two bits:

1. Can I get my hands on the parts
2. Will any "permanent" modifications be required

For the first I'm going to approach my Honda dealer to see if there is any possibility of them getting the parts. I'd prefer to go through a third-party (since it's usually cheaper) but I'm not aware of anyone carrying these type of parts yet (but if you know of any, please share!).

For the second I'm concerned about whether or not it would be possible to reverse the procedure. I don't mind spending a week or so taking the car apart and putting it back together but if it requires cutting it up or welding things in place then I might at least wait until the warrantee expires

This is the sort of thing I'm looking for...what are ISOFix mounts?

I think the coolest (although I'm not sure the safest) would be a single child-capable seat mounted in the center. I guess I didn't consider any other options than the factory seat because I'm not aware of any aftermarket child seats (I'm imagining a baby RECARO but if there is something like that out there then that might be another option.

...I can't wait to see your build!

States in the manual you should not put a child that requires a child seat in this car.

There are a number of folks here on both sides of the pond (and elsewhere).

A number of europeans have expressed desire for a seat delete. Why not find someone there that would be interested in swapping the parts with you? You might be able to find someone on this board. Shipping is expensive, but hopefully less than the cost of parts.

In the USDM that would make a lot of sense. If it is not equipped with the LATCH system I would never place my son into the car. I do not see putting the back seat in being an easy job at all. Would have to do more research, IMO the LATCH system is a must!

I think put backseats would not be a pain. Im going by my experience taking out my rears before on mulitple cars. All it is is a couple of bolts holding it down. I'm sure the rear seats should have the same mounting points. As for the seat belts, i'm sure it's as simple has removing the covers and mounting a small assembly.
