Some of the navigation options on the iPod like searching though genres isn't there for the touch screen navigation, is there anyway to search the library from the ipod, but still be hooked up digitally and see information on the screen?

If its jailbroken the no accessories tweak used to work to control from iPod.

Just verified that this tweaks works if you want to control music from your iPod / iPhone. I used a 4S and iPod 4th Gen on 5.1.1 jailbroken. GL

iOS 6.1 finally allows you to control the iPhone/iPod Touch from the device itself when connected.

This. Also double clicking home from the lockscreen allows for pausing while using navigation.

6.1 seems to have my iPhone 5 doing some weird things when hooked up to the radio. For instance it keeps starting on the same song everytime I hook the phone up or if I stop another music app. Also it seems to favor the music app over my SiriusXM or Spotify apps, I can be using one of them and then sometimes when it switches tracks the car has the music app take over and it plays that same starting song. Very strange. I need to get my wife's iPhone 5 and do some testing to make sure it's not my phone.

Not just your phone. Mines been the same way, but I'll take the minor issues over not being able to find musics easily.

I also noted that it seems to run random in a similar order. Now I just turn random off on the stereo and select shuffle on the iPhone.
