Default Steering Wheel Wrap

So I've gotten bored lately and need a new project to mess with in my free time so I've decided my base model steering wheel needs some attention.

On my fit, honda offered a leather wrap as an accessory that I bought from college hills honda. Stitched it on myself and everything in only 2 hours at the expense of 3 beers and some cramped fingers. When it comes to the CRZ, no such luck on an OEM offering.

Googling led me to two options. One, I could get a Wheelskin which looks like crap in my opinion. Or I could go custom through a third party.

I emailed the guys at JPM Coachworks to see what they could do for me since I've seen some of their work and love it but, unfortunately, they haven't done anything for the CRZ. Since they would need my steering wheel to make something it was a no go because I can't give up the steering wheel on my DD.

I started to think about it and decided to try and make my own wrap. I've sourced a spare crz steering wheel so I'm going to order it and get started making a rough template and perfect it with some cheap faux leather before doing a final product in either a Lexus like leather or alcantara. I also need to decide if I'm going to make the wheel slightly thicker or stay with the stock thickness, but I still have plenty of time for that.

Anyone have any suggestions that they want to throw out there on materials or thickness? If I get this done in a manner that I feel is acceptable, I may be open to doing them for other members depending on how much work it is. It would have to be on a core exchange setup though.

Some of JPM's work that originally caught my eye and is giving me ideas for mine. I don't expect mine to be this good, but I want to try and get as close as possible.

Have you seen Silk Blaze's steering wheels? Unfortunately, nothing for the CR-Z yet, but their Fit/Insight wheels might be of inspiration

What does the 'base' model steering wheel look like?
My 'Canadian' version (same as U.S. "EX" ) is leather already.

Silk Blaze【シルクブレイズ】- スポーツステアリングシリーズ

Those are nice but I'm not into the wood/hard top really.

The base model has a rubberish steering wheel I'll try and take a picture in a few minutes.

I would have gotten an EX but they didn't have any in a 6MT and to me, the 6MT was more important than having HID's or a leather steering wheel.
